WHAT IS THE FIG-ER OF THE POWER , God having defferent Names ,But how we put the Nmes With Out seeing the god?
Do you need to know God's true name to know he is God?

Do you need it to live good, love and be blessed in his sight, NO.

There you go, you don't need to know a name that is irrelevant anyways.

It is more important that God knows your name.
Reply:The Creator is living intelligent Energy. It has no name but is all names. Your belief in your name for God is what gives it power.
Reply:The same way Superman and Santa Claus and the tooth fairy were named. People just thought up the name. It is called fiction!

Egyptians called God RA

Norse caleed God Odin

Greek called God Zues.

It is all fantasy
Reply:It requires only imagination to name a god without having evidence of its existence.
Reply:Like water is called in different names in different languages, so god has different names for different people according to their faith even though god is one.
Reply:Meditate, look within yourself, there you will find the unnameable, what we see with our eyes is a projection of that.

Why is my fig tree losing leaves?

Hello Freaky -

Its difficult to determine what the problem is because there are not many details; but, I wanted to add here that it could be something as simple as this: fig trees will loose their leaves when/if you experience a cold snap. The tree will suddendly loose their leaves, but they will come back once the weather warms up. If your area has experienced a recent cold spell, this could be the reason for this - dont do anything other than protect from further cold and wait for the new growth once the weather warms up.

If the tree is established and older, if the sudden dropping of leaves could be indicative of overwatering. Either way: if its cold or overwater, its best to hold back on any consistent or overly moist conditions and just wait till the warmer weather comes up.

Good luck

Might be peach leaf curl a fungus
Reply:Probably lack of water or fungus on roots. My fig tree eventually died because of a root problem.

Ive started eating fig newtons...is that why im suddenly having a lot of gas and increased...waste?

if so, what can i do about it?

Ive started eating fig newtons...is that why im suddenly having a lot of gas and increased...waste?
Yes it is. Although fig newtons don't have prunes, they have figs which react the same way in your body. The reason you have more gas and waste is because of the large amount of fiber in them. Fiber is a VERY good thing to have in your diet, for many reasons, but if the extra gas is worrisome or inconvenient, just take a gas pill also. You'll also find this effect with fruits and vegetables, and whole wheat breads.
Reply:could be true

Solution: eat fewer fig newtons
Reply:Yes. Prunes will help clean you out. Cut down on eating the Fig Newtons. I know they are addicting because I have been down that road before.
Reply:They are supposed to have figs in them. Hmmmm!!!! Better go get a package and look.

My guess is they have alot of fiber. So just don't eat as many. Or take some kind of anti gas medicine after eating them.
Reply:fig newtons contain lots of fiber also may have lactative effect
Reply:its a side affect of eating too many. if you want to um... be regular put 'fibersure' in a drink
Reply:Well, figs certainly would be the cause of the extra gas and waste, due to the nutritional value in them, namely the fibre level. What to do about it is either not eat them or deal with it, because you could definately use the cleanse. You should be eating around 25 grams of fibre each day for a healthy bowel, so incorporate other fibre options into your diet, along with the fig newtons. As for the gas, I recommend activated charcoal from the health store.
Reply:Figs have fiber in them, which always makes you go to the bathroom easier. If you eat a lot of them then yes it would give you gas. Cut back on them, or make sure you're drinking extra liquid to balance it out.
Reply:yea, but they don't have prunes in them, they have figs in them
Reply:well yeah but how many did you eat hahahahahahahahahahahaha has alot of gas hahahahahahahahah............excusme im sorry haha i just like typing but if u eat it every day thats the problem eat it maybe 5 days a week or so
Reply:love it or leave it something got to give .

Was Eve's fig leaf the world's first topless bikini?

Was Eve's fig leaf the world's first topless bikini?
did someone invent the "toppless bikini"?
Reply:Yes.
Reply:By that time, it was in the public domain.
Reply:I remember that--it was called the monokini. How lame...
Reply:Depending on which way the leaf was used, it could have actually been considered the first *thong*.

:-)
Reply:The Bible says they made aprons of fig leaves by sewing them together. An apron covers the top half. The topless question is just more atheistic assumption instead of fact.
Reply::) nope , god made us using evolution..
Reply:As an aside, I think whoever invented the Speedo for men should burn in Hell.
Reply:Did Eve file a patent? I think not. Dumb broad... could've made a fortune.
Reply:No, it was a thong.
Reply:Isn't "inventing the topless bikini" kind of like proving God's existence by the absence of proof? It's leaving something out...not adding something. Pretty crappy excuse for an "invention" if you ask me. Whoever invented the original bikini should sue!

(PS--I think the story goes that God sewed them some clothes from animal skins, actually. Maybe He should sue Bettie Page over her leopard skin bikini shoot.)

Please help. From fig 1a how was the level of enzyme activity determined?

go to http://www.biochemj.org/bj/391/0285/bj39...

The authors used a radioactively labelled preparation of cell membranes as a substrate for the gpi-pld. The activity of purified and exogenously added gpi-pld was assayed by measuring the release of the radioactively labelled PA (phosphatidic acid)

Please help. From fig 1a how was the level of enzyme activity determined?
They have a lipid membrane made of phosphatidylinositol. The acid residues come from tirtium-labelled myristic acid.

And the phosphatidylinositol molecules are bound to a surface glycoprotein via glycosidic bonds.

They start every reaction with 10000 cpm's worth of membrane, and as the enzyme works its magic, it releases the phosphatidylinositol from the protein. This phospholipid is then extracted and radioactively assayed.

I have a fig tree that wont grow no bigger than 2 feet.how do i care for it?

There are different varieties of fig bushes. I have several in a small group that have been there through at least three generations of my family. They are the large variety, that is they produce large fruit. We think they are the best, but I don't know the name of them. As we are on a farm, we have in the past used fertilizer from the horse barn and later commercial fertilizer. If you use chemical fertilizer, I suggest that you use 8-8-8- as it is not too strong and you should sprinkle it around the bushes not to thickly. I would say a teacup full thinly around each bush would be fine. Keep vines and weeds away from the bushes. I have a problem with wild honeysuckle that attempts to choke my bushes. Depending on your rainfall, you may need to water also. Make a judgment call on this. If you purchased the bush maybe you can find out what variety it is. Good luck.

Was Charybdis a fig tree?

The fig tree is actually SYKEUS or Syceus, who was one of the Gigantes who waged war on the gods. Fleeing from Zeus, his mother Gaia (the Earth) hid him in her bossom, transforming him into the first fig-tree. Charybdis was was once a nymph-daughter of Poseidon and Gaia who flooded lands for her father's underwater kingdom until Zeus turned her into a monster and have her suck in and out water three times a day creating whirlpools. She lived in a cave at one side of the Strait of Messina, opposite the monster Scylla, the two of them forming a dangerous threat to passing ships.

She swallows huge amounts of water three times a day and then belches them back out again creating whirlpools. Do silverfish eat fig rolls ?

It would appear not - Or, perhaps they can't work out how to open the packet yet.

Do silverfish eat fig rolls ?
well the best thing is to leave one out and see. if you come across a big fat flup cant move silver fish and the fig roll is gon!!! then you'l know. if silver fish were as big as a dog i wonder if they'd make good pets. i realy like the little fellers. (got a couple in my house.)
Reply:I think they eat glue from cardboard boxes and flour.
Reply:they will eat them just break them into small pieces
Reply:Silverfish r not real fish, nor are they silver. They rely on the light reflection from your eyes to appear silver and the shimmering effect appears that they are fish to the passing eye. However, they do eat fig rolls but not when anybody is looking because it would give their true identity away.

Care of white fig tree for winter in Pa.?

Fig trees need some covering up in cooler climates! Traditionally, gardeners have wrapped figs in layers of burlap and tar paper. Another method is to dig a trench next to the tree and then loosen the tree's roots, tip it into the trench, and bury it. Its good idea to spray it with dormant oil and sulphur mix, to kill any dormant pests and their eggs. Cover also protects it from light and early sprouting in spring.

I thought it was evil to curse anything or anyone....

Christians, Is it a sin to eat figs? I mean Jesus seemed to hate Fig trees.?
Well then is it *puts fig newtons down and sobs*
Reply:Think of this: What if you were hungry and you went to the refrigerator get something to eat. You open it and there's nothing there. You might SLAM the door and curse. Why? Because there ain't no food in there!

So I kind of think that was Jesus human side sticking out. Hey. All he found were leaves...
Reply:i like fig newtons ...gee i hope not ..
Reply:Verse? Chapter?

Sorry, but you appear to be a troll...
Reply:You can think what you like.

Jesus enjoyed figs otherwise he would not have cared if the tree had born fruit.

God gives you the ability to bear fruit. Each if us has different talents, different "fruits" we can bear.

If we refuse to bear the fruit, using the ability that God has blessed us with, we die like the fig tree.

Why is this so hard to understand? Read the parable of the "talents".

Matthew 21:

18Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered.

19And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

20And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!

21Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.

22And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
Reply:Hmm... what do you mean by he hated them? I am guessing that you are talking about some parable he used them in, to teach a lesson... If he told a story using the fig tree as a bad example, well, he was not actually telling it about the fig tree. His stories never are literal; you have to figure out what he is really talking about.

Hope this helps!

Reply:Matthew 21:18-22, the cursing of the barren fig tree....

Christ's just expectations from flourishing professors are often frustrated and disappointed; he comes to many, seeking fruit, and finds leaves only, and he discovers it. Many have a name to live, and are not alive indeed; dote on the form of godliness, and yet deny the power of it. The sin of barrenness is justly punished with the curse and plague of barrenness; Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. As one of the chiefest blessings, and which was the first, is, Be fruitful; so one of the saddest curses is, Be no more fruitful. Thus the sin of hypocrites is made their punishment; they would not do good, and therefore they shall do none; he that is fruitless, let him be fruitless still, and lose his honour and comfort.

You are wrong when you say you thought it was evil to curse anything or anyone. It is not. It is wrong to curse something UNJUSTLY. Jesus did not curse the fig tree unjustly. He saw a fig tree, He expected to see figs, there were none, so He cursed it for not doing what the Lord had commanded, lo, those many years ago, to be FRUITFUL.

Have a blessed day!

I want to re-pot my ficus benjimanus (weeping fig) which compost and food should I use?

UK brands only please.

Thanks!

I want to re-pot my ficus benjimanus (weeping fig) which compost and food should I use?
Hi there, I don't know if you have Miracle Grow there but they make a product called ,"Quick Start". It prevents transplant shock, and promotes root growth. If you don't have that there, use whatever brand you do,just something to help from transplant shock. Then use a good quality potting soil, and mix with it some sand(only a little bit) and use Perilite. One small bag of Perilite to one big bag of potting soil, Follow the directions on the quick start and pour some in the pot after planting. Bye
Reply:The best type of soil for this type of plant is potting mix not compost. Compost is usually used if you are planting outdoor type trees, shrubs etc..

Miracle gro potting mix works great and you can now get it with or without fertilizer. Your local nursery should have it.

I would stick to without fertilizer.....Why you ask? Because the root system needs to expand into the new container.

There is a small risk of burning the root system with potting mix that has fertilizer in it.

Usually 1 or 2 weeks then fertilize with miracle grow all purpose plant food. Perferably the water soluable type.

Make sure the ficus gets plenty of indirect sunlight.

Use the finger method for watering...no not that finger.

Stick your pointing finger into the soil if it is moist do not water. If it is dry...Well it's time to water. Pretty simple huh.

Six trig fig functions?

give pt. (-9a, 12a) on the terminal side. assume that a is a positive number?

Thanks

Six trig fig functions?
knowing that the

x-value = cosine

y-value = sine

for (-9a,12a)

sine = 12a

cosine = -9a

tangent = 12a/(-9a) = -4/3

cotangent = -3/4

secant = -1/9a

cosecant = 1/12a

that's it! ;)

What does fig dich mean and slumpa?

Fick dich means f*** you and Schlampe means B*tch

What does fig dich mean and slumpa?
I guess you already know what this means. However, you misspelled both words. The first expression means "f*u*c*k you" but should actually be spelled "f*i*c*k dich" and the second one means *********, whore, hooker, slut whatever you like best and should be spelled "s*c*h*l*a*m*p*e. If you'd like to extend your German vocabulary you can also use n*u*t*t*e or *h*u*r*e, which are somewhat stronger expressions for the second word you asked for.

Hope this answers all your questions.
Reply:I cannot translate the aforementioned words any better than el_camuya and Markus D have already done.

Unfortunately these expression have become very frequent in all languages, so much so that the people are often completely unaware of what they actually say.

You are obviously unfamiliar with the German language.

It seems to me, therefore, that anybody who spoke to you using these words was showing very little respect to you and abused you in a crude way.

Should my fig tree have lost all its leaves?

the leaves went brownish and fell off but i wondered if it was a winter thing

Should my fig tree have lost all its leaves?
Fig trees are deciduous and will loose their leaves during winter. They are hardy but do better if the are placed in the shelter of a wall. The fruit usually take 2 years to ripen. They don't generally need any pruning only to remove frost damaged wood come the spring. A mulch in the Autumn and a feed of something like rose fertiliser in the spring is all the plant will need as well as plenty of water in the Summer.

Hope this helps you and best of luck.
Reply:some leaves do go brown but not all of them should have fallen off. this time of year you should have bulbs coming through at the top. (depending on age of plant)
Reply:it should have, it depends on the trees around it.

if there are lots of trees they should fall of earlier.
Reply:My 10 year old tree loses it's leaves every Autumn, they all come back the following year with plenty of figs.
Reply:mine did too!-we had a late freeze and it never recovered fully

Is a fig tree large or a bush ?

Is a fig tree a tree or a shrub (bush)?

Yes.

The difference between a "tree" and a "shrub" is sometimes merely a size thing, or "in the eye of the beholder". Fig trees will be much larger in their native environment. I have one that I have to coddle, and protect in winter, and it will probably never be much more than 6 feet. (as a matter of fact, if it decide to go for it, I'll probably prune it to keep it a manageable size for moving it in the winter)

When it's that size, you can call it a shrub without hurting its feelings....

Serviceberry is another that can be called both depending on the form. A smaller, multistem version definitely looks like a shrub. A larger species, in a single-stem (single-trunk) form is often called a Serviceberry Tree.

It's a tree and can get quite largish...so can the delectable figs it produces....ummmmmm.....fig preserves, and fig pie...good ole Southern recipes!

How do Jacob's get the figs into fig rolls?

Look at a roll. They produce a strip of pastry and then squeeze a ribbon of fig paste onto it. The edges of the pastry are then folded over and sealed down. The long length of fig filled pastry is then cut into short lengths by a guillotine.

Young figs are harvested in the wild, and then grafted to artificial fig vines where they are exposed to a controlled environment designed to make them grow at a far greater rate than is "natural". While fig farmers admit to using all kinds of techniques to plump their figs, they continue to deny the figs suffer in any way as a result of the forced rapid growth.

The figs are then "mechanically plucked" (read "pulled off by shear brute force") from the vine, and squashed into the pastry tube that will become their ultimate resting place.

Speaking of fig trees, why couldnt he just do something positive instead of killing the tree?

like give it the ability to bear fruit instead of death... and if you think that there is no moral lesson in doing that instead, why resort to scare tactics?

Reply:Wow...you have asked a great question. You may agree or disagree with what I'm about to say but I believe this to be true. The problem with the fig tree is the same problem with mankind. He created the fig tree to produce fruit. It did not so He cursed it and it died. He created mankind, we have also not produced fruit and what happened to the fig tree is what will also happen to us. My friend, the simple truth is that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Reply:The fig tree stands for the nation of Israel, who had rejected God as their king over and over again through their history, finally rejecting Him and sending Him to the cross to die.

Think about it....
Reply:What a coincidence. I just read that passage in Mark about 30 minutes ago. I did not see the reason either. And I studied it a little in other places and so far have no answer. He was proving a point about something that is beyond me. He cursed the tree right before he cleared the temple and it was dead right after. I don't know but I will ask my pastor Sunday.
Reply:The fig tree stands for the nation of Israel, which is sort of insulting to Israel...Israel is an entire country and all it gets compared to is a tree....and not even a Cherry tree...a lame fig tree.....that is just plain rude!
Reply:I wouldn't keep an unproductive apple tree in my garden, my space is limited and I need for it to be as productive as possible.
Reply:Jesus ate meat too!
Reply:The presence of a fruitful fig tree was considered to be a symbol of blessing and prosperity for the nation of Israel. Likewise, the absence or death of a fig tree would symbolize judgment and rejection. Symbolically, the fig tree represented the spiritual deadness of Israel, who while very religious outwardly with all the sacrifices and ceremonies, were spiritually barren because of their sins. By cleansing the Temple and cursing the fig tree, causing it to whither and die, Jesus was pronouncing His coming judgment of Israel and demonstrating His power to carry it out. It also teaches the principle that religious profession and observance is not enough to guarantee salvation, unless there is the fruit of genuine salvation evidence in the life of the person. James would later echo this truth when he wrote that “faith without works is dead” (James 2:26). The lesson of the fig tree is that we should bear spiritual fruit (Galatians 5:22-23), not just give an appearance of religiosity. God judges fruitlessness, and expects that those who have a relationship with Him will “bear much fruit” (John 15:5-8).
Reply:It had already been given the opportunity just as you have the opportunity to praise Him now.But you have chosen to do the opposite just as the fig tree did.You still have opportunity, the fig tree does not. When He comes back and believe me He will.I pray you have fruit to show Him.Peace

Will a fig tree live in michigan weather?
Just to add support to my answer... I lived in NY (Cold Spring) where I worked at a garden. They grew Gunnera outside (a tropical plant) and it survived every year! It needed to be winterized to ensure its survival! Report It
Reply:I worked at a garden in N. DE who had figs growing year round. Very unusual seeing that figs don't like the cold, but they covered them every year, and they survived (very unusual).

If you really, really wanted to try an experiment and grow them outdoors, plant one on a southern exposure next to a building or your house and definitely cover them with remay or maybe even burlap in the winter. You could even build a box around the fig and insulate it in the winter if you wanted to get crazy with it! All depends on how much you really want to grow figs outside.

I would not try that in Michigan. It is way too cold. If you do want to keep figs, you can grow them in containers. Put them outside in the summer, but bring them in in the fall (if you have a place for them).
Reply:Outside it will probably not survive your winters. You could always build a greenhouse! :)
Reply:The Weed Doctor has never been to Mich or Wis in winter. You could cover a fig tree with a barn full of hay %26amp; wrap it in electric blankets %26amp; not make it past December. I wonder how many he's killed since getting out of medical school?

My stock (fig) keeps dropping 1-2 thousand and then.....?

and then it meanders back to original sale price, I do make a great dividend off this stock. (Fortress Investment Group- same catagory as Blackstone) But overall it has dropped quite a bit. ( housing sector issues ) will this be a huge gainer after the Housing woes subside? Would you consider it? It is at a good price to buy.

My stock (fig) keeps dropping 1-2 thousand and then.....?
This stock looks like it is in a downward trend and i see no reason for it to recover. The housing market woes will continue for the near future. Also the company plans on announcing quarterly earnings on the 14th. If they don't meet analysis expectation (Earnings per share) then dump this stock until it recovers and starts making money. If they do show good results for the last quarter perhaps then you should stick with it.

Also just a side note, never buy a stock because it has good dividends, buy it because you think it will gain value.
Reply:i would say wait and see what happens
Reply:Sorry your stock price is falling. It hard to let go of a stock you love. Breaking up is a hard thing to do sometimes. Don't know how long you have known the stock, but you should have left on about 5/11/2007 when it broke down through the sideways trend. I'd move on and find another that is performing correctly.

What size fig leaf did Eve wear?

Sorry to be serious about this, but there's a popular misunderstanding here that may be worth correcting.

Genesis does NOT say that Adam and Eve each wore 'a (single) fig leaf'. Rather "they sewed fig leaves together" to make clothes. (Genesis 3:7) So the size of the individual leaves hardly matters.

How to fig ovulation day?

ive been trying to figure out my ovulation day and cant seem to. anyone have any advice on how to calculate it? all suggestions would help.

How to fig ovulation day?
Hi, There are a few ways in my knowledge to determine when you ovulate. I hope you find it useful.

1. BBT charting is one way. But it only helps you find out if you have ovulated and does not predict when you ovulate. But charting can provide a wealth of information regarding your cycle and help you identify issues if any. The day you see a temperature shift of atleast 0.4 deg F above your coverline, you will know you have ovulated. If temperatures continue to remain higher than the coverline, then it assures you the ovulation has occured.

2. You can use Ovulation Prediction Kits. There are instructions in the kit on when to start testing for ovulation prediction for those with regular cycles and irregular ones and other exceptions if any like those on medication or having PCOS. This OPK basically helps in detecting the LH surge in your body that triggers ovulation. So the day you detect LH surge using the kit, you can "expect" ovulation within 36 hours or so. But a LH surge indication doesn't necessarily mean that you will definitely ovulate and and egg will be released from the ovary. So this OPK usage along with BBT charting indicating thermal shift in temperature can help you identify ovulation has occured or not.

3. It is believed that when you are in the peak of fertility and you ovulate, you will have Egg White Cervial Mucus released from your body and a wet vaginal sensation is felt. This can be a sign of ovulation.

4. Some people experience "Ovulatory pain" the day they ovulate. It can occur on one side of the lower abdomen. The side depending on which ovary is releasing the egg. It can be sort of discomfort or cramp like feeling for a few seconds or minutes or hours depending on the person. It happens when the mature follicle grows to the point where it releases the egg causing a pain referred to as as ovulatory pain. So this again can be a possible sign of ovulation.

I hope you find these tips useful. One book that I would definitely recomment is Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. Its a wealth of information and a good-to-have book in a woman's library. And of course, the internet is a great source as well just like how you got here :-) . Good luck to you.
Reply:I don't know the exact formula, but as a rule a woman is most fertile within the next few days following her period, starting with the 2nd or 3rd day after.
Reply:As Shaker's answer! Won't repeat it for the sake of it!
Reply:Day 1 of your period is counted as day 1. If you have 28 day cycles, then you will ovulate at about day 14. Check out these sites, which provide lots of info. on ovulation signs:

www.fertilityfriend.com

www.ovulation-calendar.net
Reply:Keep track of your temperature, and the day you are ovulating, your temp will be slightly higher.

Of course, pray.

Good Luck!!

Easy sig fig question?

How many significnt figures is in the answer for...

(0.97269 + 0.041) / 4.7000x10^6

A. 1

B. 2

C. 3

D. 4

E. 5

Please explain. Thank you!

Easy sig fig question?
i believe it would be four because when you add those two you would get 1.01369 and rule for addition/subtraction is that you count the lowest number of decimal places which would be .041 so the answer for the addition part would be 1.013 and than you divide it and the 1.013 is the one with the lowest sig figs so the answer would have four.

hope it helps!

Black mission fig tree care tips ?

The first step is to select the best location in your yard for planting the fig tree. The ideal position will offer full sun, a southern exposure, and provide protection from prevailing winds and late frosts. Planting alongside of a brick structure or stone wall will give the fig plant a convenient barrier to the weather and allow it to absorb heat radiating from the stones or brick.

Plant the fig tree in average soil mixed with compost, but do not add manures. Figs are not heavy feeders, and over fertilization results in lush leaf growth at the expense of fig production.

One trick that you may want to employ is to dig a hole about three feet deep and line the bottom with bricks or pot shards. This serves to restrict the roots and prevent the formation of tap roots. Figs seem to respond well to this treatment, but it is not a necessity.

To winterize an in-ground tree, insulate the base with leaves or straw and wrap the branches with blankets, quilts, canvas, carpet, or carpet padding. Next, wrap with a layer of clear plastic, or cover with a clear plastic bag.

Black mission fig tree care tips ?
My mother absolutely adores figs. My best care tip is to keep her away from your tree.

My second tip that is actually useful is to visit this website for details on carrying for your fig tree(s).

http://www.nafex.org/figs.htm
Reply:I am in Zone 9, don't know where you are. Your climate could make these instructions invalid. Trim tree (if it needs it) in Febuary before the sap rises. Any pieces you cut off (especially about 12 inch pieces can be stuck into pots w/o root tone, they root easily). I have lemon figs and celeste figs, but not black mission, but the general maintenance of them should be the same. I would make sure like w/ other trees, that there are no branches rubbing other branches. If so, trim so this is not happening. My figs (especially my older ones that are no longer, unfortunately) were very easy to maintain. One of my neighbors planted them for me and my mom and for many years we did not even prune them. Once they are established they are easy. And a few years ago we had a drought here. One of my neighbors would water her fig daily. I did not. Our figs tasted better than hers.

Is a Fig a Fruit, I think it is but I want to make sure so I'm asking?

Hi, this is from Wikipedia: "The fig is commonly thought of as fruit, but it is properly the flower of the fig tree. It is in fact a false fruit or multiple fruit, in which the flowers and seeds grow together to form a single mass.

Common Fig fruitThe genus Dorstenia, also in the fig family (Moraceae), exhibits similar tiny flowers arranged on a receptacle but in this case the receptacle is a more or less flat, open surface.

A fig "fruit" is derived from a specially adapted type of inflorescence (structural arrangement of flowers). What is commonly called the "fruit" of a fig is actually a specialized structure- or accessory fruit- called a syconium: an involuted (nearly closed) receptacle with many small flowers arranged on the inner surface. Thus the actual flowers of the fig are unseen unless the fig is cut open. In Chinese the fig is called 'fruit without flower'.

Hope this helps

Will the fig leaf ever come back in style?

What with global warming and other environmental concerns, it just might. It would be cool and airy and it's an easily biodegradable renewable resource. You could just pick a leaf to wear for the day and throw it on the compost pile at night.

On the other hand, a leaf doesn't provide much protection from the elements, especially sun. It's also not durable enough to wear for sports or physical labor. I would think you'd itch pretty bad too because it wouldn't absorb perspiration and it's not very soft against your skin.

Maybe the bioengineers can design a fig plant with leaves more suitable for wearing.

Always, always,always...........let the original quantity represent 100%

43376 represents 100%

61686 represents 100 x 61686/43376 %

the answer is going to be 140 something percent

The percentage increase is this 140something minus 100%

The percentage increase is going to be 40something per cent

Good luck with the working out - you don't need me to do that!

Reply:Its not fig season, I imagine, but try organic food stores or farmer's markets. Figs are extremely delecate when fresh and ripe, so they aren't common in regular grocery stores. Or you can try reconstituting dried figs (much more available) in a desired liquid, like wine or bourbon (a great dessert, btw).

Are fig newtons a cookie or a marsupial?

Fig Newtons are neither a cookie nor a marsupial. They represent an unfortunate (not to mention illegal in 36 countries) encounter between an inebriated Australian and a rare species of albino opposum.

The offspring of this union have continued to inbreed to the present day, producing more and more bizarre genetic mutations. Besides the aforementioned Fig Newtons, this includes (but is not limited to) the following:

Kebler elves; several US politicians; the Yugo car; any form of poultry served with raspberry sauce; Michael Jackson; reality TV; and last, but not least, Hilary Duff.

Sig fig question?
repeat to yourself "your answer is only as precise as the least number of significant figures in the operation"

In the first, lack of the decimal after the 500 implies one number significane. So the answer would be "500" .

In the second, the decimal implies 3 sign. fig. precision, so you would do the subtraction and round off to 3 significant figures. So the answer would be "417."

How do jackobs get the fig into the fig roll?

FIG SWIRLS

For pastry dough

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, softened

4 oz cream cheese at room temperature

1 large egg yolk

1 teaspoon vanilla

For filling

1 cup packed soft dried Mission figs (8 oz), hard tips discarded

3/4 cup mild honey

2 tablespoons fresh orange juice

2 teaspoons grated fresh orange zest

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Make pastry dough:

Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.

Pulse butter, cream cheese, yolk, and vanilla in a food processor until smooth, then add flour mixture and pulse until dough just forms a ball.

Halve dough and form each half into a roughly 6- by 2-inch rectangle. Chill, wrapped in plastic wrap, until firm, about 1 1/2 hours.

Make filling:

Purée figs, honey, juice, zest, and cinnamon in cleaned food processor until almost smooth.

Make logs:

Roll out 1 piece of dough between 2 sheets of wax paper into a 10- by 8-inch rectangle (about 1/3 inch thick), long side facing you. Remove top sheet of wax paper and gently spread one fourth of fig mixture over bottom half of dough, leaving a 1/4-inch border. Using wax paper as an aid, roll dough, jelly-roll style, halfway, enclosing fig mixture. Flip dough, with wax paper. Remove paper. Spread with one third of remaining fig mixture and roll in same manner, to form an S-shaped log. Make another log. Chill logs, wrapped in wax paper, until firm, at least 4 hours.

Bake cookies:

Put oven rack in middle position and preheat oven to 375°F.

Cut logs crosswise into 1/3-inch-thick slices and arrange slices about 2 inches apart on lightly buttered baking sheets. Bake until pastry is pale golden, 12 to 15 minutes. Transfer to racks to cool.

How dooo they get the figs into fig rolls?

It is cooked like the filling for date squares and other fruit filled cookies and pastries, I like the greek fig cookies.

I use the string or dried figs, you just heat them after snipping off the stem ends in a light sugar syrup, I find they need just a bit of sugar and a squeeze of lemon to booast there flavour, then you make a basic sugar cookie dough and fill flatten rounds and make a turn over style cookie, for ones like Fig Newton you need a machine or a helper.

How do they get the 'figs' in the 'fig rolls'?

They use a machine that uses a syringe like nozzle to pump in the fig puree inside the empty roll shell.

Either that, or the shell is half with a cavity in the center where the fig is placed, then the top half covers the roll and it is baked/cooked a bit to let the two halves close up.

Are fig newtons good for the digestive system?

It depends on the brand... You cannot just say yes or no when there is so many different brands.

Nabisco recently came out with a "WHOLE GRAIN" version has 13 grams of sugar... I realize that some of the sugar is natural in figs, but it is also in the ingredient list as added.

There is an organic brand ... I cannot think of the name now but It is whole grain, no sugar added, and that is good for you.

Unfortunately, most companies add so much sugar or fat that they make things unhealthy. Then, they try to pawn it off as healthy... one company even has whole grain nacho or tortilla they them fry in in a bunch of fat and try to make you think it is good for you. That is coming close to the way tobacco companies used to add stuff to cigarettes and make you think they were good.

I think it is time for a class action law suit against these food companies for trying to pawn off unhealthy food on unsuspecting consumers and lure the children into force in parents to buy it.

Good luck...

Are fig newtons good for the digestive system?
Yes they are high in fiber, love those things.....you just made me hungry for those.
Reply:Honestly, no. The Fat Free Fig Newtons, have only 1g of dietary fiber which is the part of carbs that help you digest easier.

HOWEVER, i eat figs b/c they are one of the FEW snacks that have no Partially Hydrogenated Oils, which are horrible and found in almost ALL snacks. Partially Hydrogenated Oils are bad b/c they are not natural and serve as stored fat to your body =( you don't want to eat too much partially hydrogenated anything.

Mmm.. Fig newtons =)
Reply:yes, fig is very good at cleaning out your system.
Reply:Figs are high in fiber so they'll help clean you out. They are also really high in sugar, so you may want to moderate your intake. If it's fiber you're looking for, a stalk of celery will do wonders.

Are fig leaves edible or poisonous?

I don't know, why would you want to eat the leaves? Put a pile of them around a horse or pig and see if they eat them, that will tell you if they are ok or not.

Animals still have the ability to detect if something is good or bad, we used too.

Typically sweet is good and bitter is bad. Humans would eat a bite or two of something then wait to see if it effected them bad when we were cavemen.

Are fig leaves edible or poisonous?
I actually have the same question. My parents have a large fig tree next to their house, and my mother has been puppy-sitting for me. She thinks it's hilarious that my little 8-pound dog goes nuts for these leaves - she prances around with one in her mouth, then settles down and shreds it. It actually makes her breath smell sweet, but I am nervous the leaves may be poisonous.

Do Fig Newtons contain wasp eggs?

no, where did you hear that?

Its true that various fruits and vegetables do contain traces of insect parts, there are actually regulations on how much insect is allowed per volume per food.

I guess if there is a pest that attacks figs and that pest has a parasitoid predator that happens to be a wasp, and they get mulched up into cookies, then yeah its possible, but these things wont appear in the ingredients.......and most of the rumors about this kind of stuff is all just speculation, and usually not factual!

Do Fig Newtons contain wasp eggs?
no, unless accidentally added in the cooking process
Reply:Urban myth alert! Sorry, no, but that doesn't mean that the FDA has not allowed some entomological contaminates into the cookies either.
Reply:At the link below you may find all you would wish to know about wasps and figs.

In short, fig wasps are found in inedible figs, or caprifigs, and Fig Newtons are made from edible figs, which have a different flower structure which prevents fig wasps from laying eggs there.

Sig Fig Significant Digits question quick!?

The question was how many moles of solute are needed per 1 kg of water when a compound is used in some antifreeze mixtures. they want protection against freezing to as low as -40 C. -40 is the only number in the problem. The answer I got is 21.5 but what is the answer using correct significant digits?

Sig Fig Significant Digits question quick!?
Assume the temperature (-40) is exact, so infinite sig figs.

ΔTf = Kf · mB

40 = 1.86 * m

21.50537634 = m

21.5 = m

3 sig figs is correct.
Reply:2.2X10^1 You must use scientific notation because the problem contains two significant figures.

The answer needs a decimal place in it... just like 1.0 there really is no need for the decimal place in most situations, but in chemistry class it is best.
Reply:This question shows just how daft "significant figures" problems are (not your fault; you didn't choose the question). In this case, whatever the rules state, is just as easy to measure out 21.5 mol as 21 or 22 mol, and there is no point being less accurate than you could be.

So if you have a good teacher, tell him or her that you know that 21 is the official answer, but pass on my comments, and see what the teacher says.
Reply:Delta T = kf x m

kf for water = 1.86

40 = 1.86 x m

m = 21.5

this means 21.5 moles of solute in 1 Kg of water

Since 2 significant figures are in 40 °C the answer would be 22 moles
Reply:20 C

How do you get the fig into a fig roll?
process it until it hardly resembles a fig squash it into some kind of processed pastry mix with 10 000 ingredients in and there you have it, one ready made factory fig roll to join the other 100000000000
Reply:I think you have to frig it a little.

Do fig newtons have bugs in them?

The way that figs develop requires that wasps get into the fruit to pollinate it. If there are developed seeds in the fig then that means that these tiny wasps got into the fruit. It also means that there might be dead wasps that are left behind. However, these are too small to see without magnification. I would not worry about it. They have always been there. It does not change the taste of the fig newton. Besides, they will have been cooked by the time you eat them. A lot of foods have insects in them. If you stop eating food that could contain dead insects then you are going to starve.

If you see live bugs crawling around inside the package, this is not good. Toss them out.

On the other hand, the U.S. government knows that it it impossible to clean all insects from all crops, so the federal rules do allow some insect residue to remain in food after processing.

All of you food has some insect remains in it.
Reply:I heard the figs have a larvae in them and they are so small they cannot be removed. They are crushed and cooked. It gives you extra protein, don't worry about it.
Reply:...well, if they do, they are good and dead after being cooked in an oven

...my Mum used to have a fig tree in her garden - the only "bugs" that went to the figs were ants - they were after the sugar in the figs

...Mum would just pick a ripe fig, knock off the ants, and eat the fig

...didn't hurt her at all - she is now 90 !!
Reply:Yes, some here and there, but who cares. They taste good and I can't see the bugs so I can pretend they aren't there. It's just a little extra protien in my diet I guess. Same thing with hot dogs, just pretend it's not cow buttholes and enjoy!

My fig. 8 puffer won't eat anything except for snails (I have tons). I've been trying to feed krill. help!!

There are other fish in the tank (guppies) and he has started chasing some of them today. but still no go on the krill! should i try a live food? what kind, the petstore didn't have any blackworms, so i went with krill instead... Fortunately i made sure i had TONS of snails before I got him and he's been eating a few of those... and unfortunately one of my ghost shrimp lol... i figured he would on that tho. I have aquarium salt, a filter, tons of plants and little cave-ish areas (which he also ignores lol). not sure what I can do. Oh, and he always swims near the surface of the water, poking his 'nose' at it. Please help!

Lets see. Your puffer will kill your guppies. I am not a fan of krill, it has the temdency to make a mess...badly. Snails are puffers favorite, they also really like frozen blood worms. I would make sure you don't have any ammonia/nitrite spikes with the use of the krill, and if he is not eating it stop giving it. After he eats all the snails and your other fish..get him some frozen and freeze dried worms. His behavior sounds pretty normal...they usually like being out in the middle and snooping around the surface for bugs. I have also feed live feeder crickets when they get a bit bigger.
Reply:Let him eat snails, and get another tank for the Guppies.
Reply:My experience with puffers is that they are finicky eaters. Mine would only eat live bloodworms and whatever snails could be found in the tank. As they are predatory fish, I've found that the only way to keep them from being aggressive towards the other fish is to keep more than one in the tank. I had five of them in a tank with other fish and there were no problems. This might just be a singular occurrence of mine, but that's all hope I can offer you.

All, in all, your puffer's behavior sounds pretty normal.
Reply:Snails are puffer fish's natural food, so he will be going for those first.

2nd on the list is probably guppies, those will go next.

He will never have seen a krill before and probably doesn't recognise it as food.

If you have enough snails he can live on them quite happily, but your guppy's days are numbered if they run out.

Reply:Fig. 8 puffer fish actually are suppossed to eat snails as a big part of their diet. They are suppossed to eat krill too but if he's not then just not feed him for a day and then give him the krill. This will change his diet and if he's hungry enough then he will eat the krill. Be sure to continue to feed him snails too because their hard shells will keep his beak trim. Their beaks can overgrow.

He's poking the surface of the water either becuase he sees his reflection or because he could be looking for food.

Also TRY brine shrimp. I'm not sure if he'll go for it but most likely he will. I really hope this helps and good luck!
