Can anyone help me on Fig trees. I have been told that the twigs are harmful on a open fire. Is this true.?

I have cut down a tree and want to use the twigs in the winter for my fire but have been told that the fumes are harmful and can kill you. I have a wood burning fire and don't want to waste them. Can anyone advise me on this.

Any tree limb you cut for fire must be completely dried out.

That takes about a year outside, and perhaps longer, depending on how moist the wood is from the inside.
Reply:The sap from a fig tree is photo-toxic IE when you get it on your skin and then expose your skin to bright sunlight it will cause a burn. As a rule of thumb burning dry twigs should be OK but don't inhale the smoke just in case.
