I found a recipe of fig & walnuts pie. It calls for 1/2 c. Brandy or Cognac. Which is better&what brand name?

Also,If a less expencive brand is ok?

If you are going to use it for cooking buy a good brandy. Cognac costs a bomb and not worth wasting for cooking. Brandy will give a good flavor.



My favorite cognac is Camus(it costs an arm and a leg though).Napoleon brandy is good. I don't know if it is available where you stay though. I buy mine in duty free shops at the airport.
Reply:If you are only cooking with it I would save money and buy the cheapest brandy i could buy. Cognac is way too expensive to buy just for cooking.

Reply:it is just for cooking, so a cheaper brand will do.



brandy is normally cheaper. but you can always buy small bottles, and try both. it is a matter of personal taste.
Reply:I prefer cognac because it has a smoother taste than brandy. I personally like Courvoisier which is a common brand, however, there is no reason why you can't use less expensive brand.
Reply:Buy the cheapest Cognac, it's for flavor
