Was the forbidden fruit a fig?

I mean, considering that as soon as they ate it and saw that they were naked, (which means -without excuse) they covered themselves with...what?

Was the forbidden fruit a fig?
I always heard it was a quince, but I guess we'll never know, since the whole story is just a fable.

ok, maybe this is just silly.

excuse for what?

many people do think that the fruit was a fig.

honestly there was never a literal fruit. its not about the tree or the fruit or the literality of it. its all figurative.

I think I remember a documentary saying that the main reason people think its apples, is because:

1) familiarity. at least in the civilized world(?) everyone over the age of 3-5 years old, knows what an apple is.

2) some of the language-translations have correlations weird. like that one of the names for apple is "malus" or something, which is the word for evil or something like that in a different language.

I heard another theory that saw it as figurative, and that the fig leaves represented knowlege, trying to compensate for their awareness of their ignorance with sceience and mundane knowlege, or something.
Reply:I could have been a fig-ment of their imagination.
Reply:Maybe it was; maybe it wasn't. The fig leaves may have just been on a convenient tree next door!
Reply:apple as in "Apple of my eye"...the conotation that you are what I desire...Meaning that they, themselves where the forbidden fruit (sex is knowledge)
Reply:Have you ever felt a fig leaf? There is no way I am putting one of those on my dik.
Reply:The problem in the Garden of Eden was not an apple or a fig in a tree.

It was the Pair on the ground!

Reply:It might have been. It's interesting that after they ate of the fruit they covered themselves with fig leaves. However, perhaps they just used fig leaves because they are so big? Maybe it was an apple? Maybe it was a fruit that no longer exists today? All of this is conjecture and doesn't matter or God would have clarified it in the scriptures.
Reply:I wouls say it was the snake (sepant). I like clothes anyway lol
Reply:No, it was an apple.
Reply:She did not eat an apple, as many were taught in Sunday School. The key to understanding what really happened is to identify two "trees" in Genesis 2:9.

Also, God's Word abounds with figures of speech, symbolism, Hebraisms, metaphors, and types, for example, the seven churches in the Book of Revelation.

On the one hand, if I said to you, I'm going to paint the town red tonight, you would probably understand this figure of speech.

On the other hand, if I said the above to someone from China, for instants, he might think I'm going to grab a bucket of red paint, a brush, and paint the town red.

And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life (Christ) also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Satan). Genesis 2:9

And the LORD God said unto the woman, What [is] this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent (Satan) beguiled me (wholly seduced ... took her virginity) and I did eat. Genesis 3:13

So, the forbidden fruit was Satan. After all, they covered their privates, not their mouths, with the fig leaves.
Reply:The forbidden fruit was never named in the bible
Reply:wan't it an apple?

at least according to the Desperate Housewives title sequence it is.
Reply:Reasonable logic...but unfortunately we are not 'privy' to that information.
Reply:The forbidden fruit was an apple. God said Adam and Eve could do whatever they want with no shame in the garden of Eden as long as they left this one tree laden with fruit alone. Well, you know the rest. Evil lived in the tree, guised as a snake and talked Eve into offering a bite to Adam.

They were soon banished. I don't know why they chose fig leaves.
Reply:Jewish tradition does, in fact, believe that it was a fig, for the exact reason that you have mentioned.

[There are other interpretations in the Talmud: One opinion says it was wine, another says wheat. There isn't really any reference in Judaism to it having been an apple.]
Reply:Well, they were imaginary people, so they could have covered themselves with wedding cake and it wouldn't be any different.
Reply:Adam and Eve did eat the forbidden fruit and covered themselves with leaves as they were sent to Earth. The moral of the story has nothing to do with what type of fruit they ate. The moral is not to disobey God! (p/s: personally I dont think it was an apple...)
Reply:I see where you are going with that. They immediately covered themselves in fig leaves. From that, you could say that since they wanted to get covered up as soon as possible, they just grabbed what was around them. But I do not think it is a fig because Eve ate from the fruit when she was by the tree, BUT then she went to look for Adam to share the fruit with and THEN they covered themselves in fig leaves (while they were away from the tree of the forbidden fruit).
Reply:In Islam..its happened at Adam and Hawa(Adam and Eve). They cover their body with leaves and Allah sent them to the world for them to repented.
