What is the best way to prune a fig tree(bush)? It is 5 years old but only produces 1 or 2 figs a year.?

It is better to prune immediately after the main crop is harvested, or with late-ripening cultivars, summer prune half the branches and prune the remainder the following summer. Perhaps it just need to be thinned a bit, to allow fresh air and sunlight into it. Figs rarely need a lot of heavy pruning except early on in the first few years.

Actually you prune them after about 2 weeks of your coldest weather..not in the spring...Fig trees need a 2 week dormancy in the winter to do cuttings or to prune..It will keep the fruit from appearing that season if done in the spring or warm months..they MUST have a cold dormant period first..
