Why is the fig...[tree and fruit], so important in the scriptures?

Not only the Bible.

It plays an important role in the extension of life.

It has many small seeds, that can germinate!?

Seriously.

Why is the fig...[tree and fruit], so important in the scriptures?
In the geographical setting, it's a useful metaphor, because people would be familiar with it.

If the Biblical writers had used the tomato as a metaphor, it might not have been as well received, being that it would take nearly 1500 years for the tomato to reach the Holy Land.
Reply:the tree regardless of its fruit is a door or gate, path as that we can continue within most follow that of adam but to me it is the other tree is that of jesus.

through one mans disobediance many were made sinners.

also through one mans obediance many were made rightious. the words not exact of romans 5:19.

the tree could also be olive.

romans 11:17-23.

if it is, it also might within it's fullness provide the oil olive. that was commanded of in exodus 27:20 that the virgins in mathew 25:3-8.

many things in the bible have a continual meaning.

Reply:I asked this question the other day to someone not on here though .. the fig tree that jesus cursed and the metaphor for the isrealites .. I think I've heard stories about the garden being on the mt of olives and the tree is the same one that christ was crucified on and the fig tree being the tree of knowledge good and evil ... not sure for a second that I believe any of it but it's sometimes intersesting to speculate a lil as long as it doesn't fall to far afield of christ and his redemtive work on the cross
Reply:Fig has immense medicinal value. In India it is one of the base materials of Ayurvedic medicines. it is useful for various diseases
Reply:The fig tree is usually a metaphor for Israel.
Reply:May be to remind us of the fact that they are "FIG ments" of imagination!
