Oak, mesquite, apple, and pecan are good woods for smoking meat. How about wood from a fig tree? Any others?

Looking for a list of woods that are excellent for smoking meats with. Is fig tree wood good?

Fig is not really good they provide a brief burn and not that flavorful to the food as others. Best bet is skip the fig. There's Hickory, Wild Cherry, and Almond. For make it more flavorful presoak your chips in a 3/4 cup of water for 30 mins to an hour before using them and drain the water and wait 45 mins. before placing them ontop of your coals and lite them up together and enjoy. This will provide a good smoke flavor to your food.

sweet.
Reply:Here in the Florida Keys, we use Sea Grape and Buttonwood. They are both excellent!
