Considering what Jesus did when he met up with that fig tree, what do you think he would have done....?

What do you think the burning bush was made of?

Why did Jesus say he had seen Nathaniel under the fig tree? (I think it was Nathaniel anyway---)?

The one without guile

Why did Jesus say he had seen Nathaniel under the fig tree? (I think it was Nathaniel anyway---)?
This passage is in John, chapter 1, starting with verse 45. Jesus was beginning to choose some men to be his disciples. Philip had just said to Nathaniel, "We have found him whom Moses, in the Law, and also the prophets wrote - Jesus, of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." but Nathaniel was skeptical, and said, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" and put him off. But Philip insisted that Nathaniel go to see Jesus.

Jesus was showing a special ability when he said, "Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile." Nathaniel was not aware of ever having met Jesus before or had any common friends, and was still skeptical, so he said, "How do you know me?" And then Jesus said to him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you."

How could Jesus have seen him? Nathaniel had just come from some distance. This was amazing to Nathaniel and convinced him that this was, indeed, someone who was beyond an average human being, and so he said, 'Rabbi! You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" Jesus then said, "Because I said 'I saw you under the fig tree' you believe? You will see greater things than these."

If I told you what you are doing right now, it would be pretty amazing, wouldn't it? Well, Jesus knows,,, but I don't. After that, Nathaniel believed in Jesus.

Ok heres the thing im 5'2 and 180lbs...i fig out a diet plan tell me if its good?????PLZ HELP!?

Alright my mom has been doing this diet thing were she eats 2 bowls of special K each day and she lowered her portions of meals....and she also walks for about 20 min each nite...and has laready lost 22 lbs in 1 month....do you think this sounds like a good plan for me...im 19

Ok heres the thing im 5'2 and 180lbs...i fig out a diet plan tell me if its good?????PLZ HELP!?
that plan sucks.

all she has lost is water weight and muscle not fat plus she has slowed down her metabolism which will make fat loss in future even harder. as soon as she starts eating normal she will gain more than lost back.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.

dont try to lose more than 1-2lbs a week - its not healthy to lose more.

eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)

5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day

8 glasses of water

have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy

have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle

cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training

dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried - no junk food.
Reply:that's OK for the short term, but as soon as she returns to eating normally, some of the weight can come back. (or all or more than before) eat well balanced meals with proper portions, drink lots of water, and exercise at least 30 minutes every day. use the links to figure out how much of what kind.
Reply:That sounds like a good diet. But along with lowering the portions of the meals you need to make sure they are nutritious and something you can keep up with once you hit your ideal weight. You don't want to lose the weight too quickly or it is more likely to come back. Also I would recommend taking a multi-vitamin to make sure you get all the good stuff you need.

The best part of the plan is the exercise. That is the most important thing to leading a healthy life.

Good luck.
Reply:for the first time, yes, but later on you are going to quit losing weight by doing this because you will need to consume less calories and take more exercise.

you will need to add strength trianng and cardio to your routione. 20 minutes is not good in the long term. get a jump rope.

What is the true meaning of the parable of the fig tree?

The incident of Jesus and the fig tree although not a parable, but something that actually happened, served two purposes. One purpose was to demonstrate the power of faith and the other was to show his apostles that baring fruit is important in God's eyes and that the nation of Israel was not producing fruit, but had actually turned its back on what they had agreed to with God at Mt. Sinai. So if we are Christians then the question is are we baring fruit that is pleasing to God and Jesus. In other words, are we following Jesus' command at Matthew 28:19,20.

What is the true meaning of the parable of the fig tree?
i thought it was just to show the disciples that if they had faith and believed they also could do miracles. EDIT: which the new king james says that whatever they prayed for without doubting would be answered
Reply:I assume you're talking about when Jesus touched it and the next day it died?

I believe this is Christ showing the apostles that He will suffer %26amp; die soon........but on the 3rd day rise again
Reply:http://www.godhatesfigs.com/
Reply:We must bear fruit, i.e. live according to Christian teaching, or our spiritual life will wither and die. It is not enough to simply look good to other Christians, we must share the faith.
Reply:You mean when Jesus touches it - it immediately withers and dies? When the Lord returns (the embodiment of the true church), all false religion will crash.
Reply:the fig tree represents us- his children. as children of God- we are supposed to bear good fruit [the fruits of the holy spirit] The man is Jesus.he came to earth to give us a second chance, to cleanse us of our sins so that we may bear good fruits. however, in the end, if we do not follow his commands, we- like the fig tree will be cut down. [thrown into hell]
Reply:One way of seeing this parable is to see the fig tree as a representation of the Jewish people whom God had called out of Egypt to be the holy people, set apart to Him, from whom his salvation would be made know to the rest of the world.

Jesus looks to the tree for fruit. Fruit represents the people fulfilling God's purpose in choosing them but all He sees are leaves like the leaves that Adam and Eve sewed together to cover their naked shame when they disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden.

So Jesus pronounces a curse on those who failed to repent of their sins and recognize Him as the Savior or Messiah.

John 1:11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

John 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been carried out in God."

Reply:lt wasn't bearing any fruit. lt says how important it is for believers to bear the fruit of the Spirit.

At least, that's what l've always thought.
Reply:The fig tree that does not bear fruits were referring to the Jewish leaders and nation as a whole. God cut them off and turn to Spiritual Israel . There is now , no more Jews or Greeks, freemen nor slaves; all who believes in Jesus now form the Spiritual Israel (Jews and Gentiles included)

The barren fig tree has always been referred to Israel as a Nation even in the Old Testament. The Jewish disciples understood it. But we as Gentiles don't. Now, you know!
Reply:the fig tree bore no fruit.....it was a stick that provided little shade and no substance, withered and died......

a man is the same since we are to be known by our fruits..

the man bore no fruit / knowledge / work / faith...he was a stick that provided little shade / help /compassion and no substance/ self centered/ self absorbed, withered/ none productive and died/ not contribute....

that is what I read it as and what I have heard it as also....
Reply:You have some great anwers here amonst the jokers. we can only pray for them too.

Idont know that I can add to the answers of those that spoke clearly about this, but I do know that its not just fruit of leading ppl to God that God is talking about. True fruit will love and obey God. they are truly ppl of Jesus Christ. So if we bring ppl to God and we dont bring them Jesus, we didnt really have fruit. Cause without Jesus we have no faith at all, that is if you believe the Christian faith.

so if we live like Jesus and act like Jesus and live only for Him, we will have trees that bring in much fruit for Jesus. Hard to bring somoene into this if you dont believe it yourself.

Those that dont bring the teachings of Jesus are not really bringing us the God of the HOly Bible. To have much fruit on our fig trees, we must bring in real fruit with the full teachings of Jesus Christ. Unless its real fruit, its not really fruit, is it? The others spoke clearly to what this all means, but I just had to add that be sure it is real fruit that you bare on your tree.

the real fruit, the firstfruits of Jesus Christ, and your tree will always be healthy and full....
Reply:The Fig Tree Withers

Early in the morning, as he was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. 19Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, "May you never bear fruit again!" Immediately the tree withered.

When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. "How did the fig tree wither so quickly?" they asked.

Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done.

22) If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."
Reply:I'll tag this. I would like to see what people assumes it means.

I'm very certain that none of the people can answer correctly.

Why are we told to learn the parable of the fig tree?

It's getting late in the game because this generation, the one we're in now, has some gray hair. Christ returns at the end of this generation. Then, begins the Millennium / The Lord's Day.

To learn more about the final generation, let's go to the Word and read The Parable of the Fig Tree. Jesus, in Matthew 24:32-44, said:

32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

Jesus did not say if you get around to it, learn it. He said Learn it.

The fig tree symbolizes Israel. And, When his branch is yet tender, means that Israel became a country again. This happened in May, 1948.

33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

The end of this earth age, dispensation of time, is near, knocking at the door. The earth is NOT going to be destroyed. A new age, The Lord's day will begin.

34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

All prophecies concerning this earth age will be fulfilled, come to pass, during this generation, which started in 1948.

35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Heaven and earth shall pass away means there will be a new heaven age and a new earth age, or a new dispensation of time. And, God's Word never changes. It's the same today, as it was yesterday, and as it will be forever.

36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

Because no man knows the exact time when this earth age ends, we must be watchmen.

Watchmen for what?

The fulfillment of prophecies.

If you're a serious student of the Word, you know that these end time prophecies are passing rapidly - like a woman travails (in labor). At the end of labor, a birth takes place. In this case, a new age starts.

38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

It's important that you know who are the they in the above verse. They = Ne-phil-im, which means fallen ones (from naphal, to fall - 5307 in your Strong's Concordance). In other words, the fallen angels, the ones who left their place of habitation (heaven) and came to earth.

At the 6th trump, which you can read about in the Book of Revelation, the order is issued to boot antichrist from heaven to earth. Those fallen angels will also come here with their leader, antichrist, who is none other than satin.

And, just like in the days before the flood, they will be seducing women. Only those, however, who do not have God's seal in their forehead, which means in their mind.

39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Those who get the Mark of the Beast - those who've been deceived by antichrist - will only realize that they've been worshiping the wrong christ when the Son of man, the real Christ, returns: the Second Advent.

The following verse explains the shame of those who get the Mark of the Beast after they realize that they've been deceived by antichrist:

And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb. Revelation 6:16

40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

The one taken will be taken by antichrist. The other left will have God's seal in his forehead; therefore, he cannot be deceived by antichrist.

As Daniel 11:24 tells us, antichrist comes in peaceably and prosperously. He'll look and act like many Christians think Christ will look and act. If antichrist, for example, started loping off folks' heads, how many Christians would he deceive?

41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Again, antichrist takes the first one. The one left is sealed by God, which mean she finds antichrist an abomination, not a temptation.

42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

Those who fail to study God's Word, in depth, will not know for what to watch. Your Father's sent you a Letter, telling you everything you need to know.

As I said above, it's getting late in the game because we're in the 5th seal now. Thus, you'll see the following prophecy, Revelation 13:1-4, fulfilled before long:

1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

The beast is a one-world system - the sea symbolizes people - the horns symbolizes power. In other words, flesh man creates this one-world, evil system. It, in my opinion, will come from the United Nations. Ask yourself where most countries go for help when they have problems?

2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

The dragon, which is one of satin's names, just as antichrist is one of them, gives the beast its power.

3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.

The beast, the one-world system, gets a deadly wound, which is healed by antichrist.

4 And they worshiped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?

They worship the dragon because they've been deceived - they got the Mark of the Beast, which means in their mind. They believe antichrist is Christ. That's why when Christ comes back, 7th trump, they'll pray for the mountains to fall on them. Sad.

Why are we told to learn the parable of the fig tree?
to learn that every good tree bears good fruit, so good people do good works. and every bad tree will shrivel up and die. and that is what will happen to bad people doing bad things.
Reply:it's not really a parable, is it? it's a story. it's in the bible to demonstrate to us both the power of our words and the power of our faith. once you understand that, you'll understand why noah was able to curse his son and make it last. and a lot of other things. you'll learn how to speak things into existence. sounds ridiculous until you learn how to do it, but it has always worked well for me. study it. it's good stuff.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. -Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV)

edit- oops... i thought you were talking about when Jesus cursed the fig tree. oh well. you should still study up on the stuff i wrote about. it's crucial.
Reply:God hates figs.

Brother Samson bit the lion and brother Jesus smashed a fig tree; did they love nature?

people should care more for nature than they do. there are so many people living so close together that you can't see the trees; and so they take this to be normal, when it's really quite abnormal.

but don't you think that lion would have bit samson?

about the trees i agree.

wouldn't it be better if they used donkey bats in the majors instead of wooden bats?

Brother Samson bit the lion and brother Jesus smashed a fig tree; did they love nature?
I hate to bother you with the facts, but ... Jesus didn't smash any fig tree. He cursed it.

In so doing, it couldn't produce any more fruit -- but it was allowed to live.
Reply:ok seriously, GET A FACELIFT!!!!
Reply:Neither one of these things are in the bible anywhere. If you are going to ask a question, then first get the facts.
Reply:Samson never bit a lion and Jesus never smashed a fig tree but Jesus cursed it.

Reply:Well, it sounds like they did, but were they protecting themselves? wait, that can't be right, why would you protect yourself from a tree? on that note, i think that they loved nature, but we all have our bad days!!! :) hope that helped

If God didn't want Adam and Eve to wear fig leaves, why do we wear clothes?

Should we return to innocence and dress the way they did before the fall? Why else would babies be born without clothes unless that pleases God?

If God didn't want Adam and Eve to wear fig leaves, why do we wear clothes?
One reason is probably because people aren't going to be innocent anymore, they would be staring at others and lusting after them.
Reply:In Judaism, Adam and Eve did not have bodies until after they obtained the knowledge that God had tried to forbid them from.

Souls don't need fig leaves or clothing.
Reply:because after the human race sinned and ate of the tree, we relized our nakedness and we felt ashamed. God knew this immeditaly and made clothes from fig leaves and GAVE them to adam and eve. so im guessing we are still to wear them.
Reply:God made them naked because they were without sin and innocent. But when they were tempted by the devil and decided to partake fruit from the tree of knowledge and know good and evil like God and make their own decisions instead of God's, they knew they were naked in their sin. So God clothed them with animal skins-His first sacrifice by the way to help man, leading eventually to His own sacrifice as Christ on the cross.
Reply:Err..it is warmer.
Reply:I would love to be naked right now. I'm at work.
Reply:Before the fall lust was not an issue. Now that it is, clothing is necessary. Not to mention they provide protection from the elements.
Reply:I've been to a nude beach and BELIEVE me, some people NEED clothes. Eww.
Reply:Because they were without sin for a little while. No ridicule from others....no "others" to be ridiculed by anyway.

No mocking, no shame, no pettiness, no pride, etc etc.

Today we subscribe to societal rules, so we suffer shame, disgrace, mockery and a host of other derogatory things that can only be conjured up by shallow, petty and sinful human beings.
Reply:This is called evolution :)
Reply:Where the climate permits, yes we should all be able to be comfortably nude. I can't see that happening in the very near future, sadly.
Reply:At the time Adam and Eve did not have any knowledge of sin, knowledge, or of life in general. But after they ate from the tree of knowledge they became aware of their difference and felt shameful so they covered up.

If only they would of drank out of the fountain of life first and then ate of the tree of knowledge then it wouldn't of mattered because we'd all be imortal.

Just think though that if they hadn't ate from the tree of life, there'd be no sex (just kidding). Anyway, now we are stuck wearing clothes except for us who live out in the country where no one can see and we lay out in the nude (haha) but there are countries out there that it is part of their culture to be naked for they know no better.
Reply:Who told you He didn't want them wearing fig leaves?

When they sinned GOD made them clothes to wear. He knew they'd need the protection.

Genesis 3:21

Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
Reply:Don't forget, the world was very different before the flood of Noah. There are verses which talk about a second layer of water above the land in the atmosphere which gave the whole world a huge greenhouse effect. Then all that water came down with Noah when the floodgates of heaven opened and the world was forever changed. It was the perfect paradise until the sin of Adam and Eve. Its basic human instinct to sit there and say, wow i'm naked. Adam and Eve would never have given it a thought had they not touched the fruit. And they didn't need it because the world was perfect temperature all the time. When Adam hid, one of the first things he said was that he hid because he was naked and felt ashamed. God was upset with them and punished all mankind from then on but then made clothes for them out of his grace and gave his Son up for that original sin.
Reply:Apparently you didn't bother to read the rest of the story. No surprise there!
Reply:Read Genesis closely and see that Adam and Eve realized they were cold, sought shelter, and tried to make clothes without knowing how. The LORD GOD had to make clothes for them.
Reply:You're right we shouldn't QUICK everyone take off your clothes!
Reply:Because Muslims will behead us if we dont cover up our shameful bodies
Reply:be honest would you really like to see Oprah Winfrey, Rosie O'Donnell, Rush Limbaugh or Jerry Fallwell naked?
Reply:They did not have to wear anything but then after the fall the first animal had to die for the clothes.
Reply:God made the first set of clothes for them. He killed an animal and took its skin to clothe them. This was the first death recorded in the Bible.
Reply:You ignore many practical considerations.
Reply:Because we would get cold and we would get frost bite. and times have advanced and God knows we have to survive if we want to live. and God knows we have to wear clothes. and i think the reason why God didnt want adam and eve to wear figs was because it might of been sinning and Jesus didnt exsisted before then .

Who will walk around with a magic wand when its fig curse season; Jesus wept?

You are very confused and do not seem to have much background in scripture. Jesus cursed the fig tree as an example for us on how we must live our lives. We must produce "fruit" in order to follow Jesus. The "fruit" we produce is good deeds compelled by a heart filled with love for God.

Jesus wept when his good friend Lazarus died. This emotion showed his fully human nature while also being fully God.

Who will walk around with a magic wand when its fig curse season; Jesus wept?
No fig trees here. Mulberries, cottonwoods, and some trashy thing that drops it's seed pods allover.

Jesus is love, but why did he curse the fig tree?

That fig tree chose to sin by not producing fruit. It knew how much Jesus likes figs. But Jesus taught that fig tree a lesson, who's laughing now, fig tree??

Jesus is love, but why did he curse the fig tree?
a lesson in faith He was teaching.
Reply:Jesus used the fig tree as an illustration of the fruitlessness of the contemporary Jewish religious leaders. But the disciples didn't get the analogy. They kept asking how making figs available would increase the people's faith, and wondering aloud whether figs should be sacrificed at the Temple. So he got real angry and kind of overdid the example. They didn't remember anything else that happened that week, but they sure remembered that! "Man! You should have seen it shrivel up! Just like-- schlooorP! It was so cool! You know, they really SHOULD sell figs around here. I don't see why they can't...."
Reply:Because it didn't have fruit ( what it was created for) and since he Jesus was the creator he cursed it.

That's how we are. We are made to produce and if we don't....I think you understand.

No, It doesn't matter what season it is. We still are told to produce fruit.
Reply:As a lesson for believers that they must produce fruit. He freely gives us salvation. What do we do then nothing?

He wants to do works of love - because he already saved us not because they are required. We need to have a character like his.
Reply:Jesus had anger management problems most likely caused by his daddy issues.
Reply:This was the same man who walked on water, inspired fish to jump into a net and multiplied the loaves and fishes. He wasn't use to nature being uncoorperative.

Or perhaps it was just an object lesson.
Reply:Because there was no fruit on it; so it was a waste of the soil.
Reply:The fig tree wasn't literal, it was used as an illustration.

Fig trees don't mature until around June and they get little buds of fruit well before the leaves even appear. So if a fig tree had leaves, it was reasonable to believe it had fruit. This tree particular tree had leaves but no figs; it was unproductive, worthless.

In a neighboring verse, Mark 11:22-25, we have a clue that Jesus was talking about faith. It could be used to move moutains or it could just be an outward show. But what did the withering of this fig tree have to do with faith? it was Jesus’ faith that made the curse effective. It seems that Jesus was using this occasion to provide an object lesson on the power of faith. As Jesus stated: “All the things you pray and ask for have faith that you have practically received, and you will have them.”—Mark 11:24.

There also seems to be another connection between the withering of this fig tree and the quality of faith. Just three months earlier Jesus uttered a parable about an unfruitful fig tree that needed to be cut down. (Luke 13:6-9) The fig tree of this parable was a symbol of the unfruitful ancient Jewish nation. Although this nation had been in a covenant relationship with God, the appearance was deceptive, because they even rejected God’s own Son. For them to feel this way, they had to have lacked faith

By making the tree wither, Jesus was graphically demonstrating what the end result would be for that fruitless, faithless nation.

While the absence of faith can make us fruitless and will only lead to our rejection by God, our possessing an active faith will enable us to ‘move mountains.'
Reply:There is no lack of love in the cursing of the fig tree, if I take the implication of your question correctly.

But it did have a meaning. I can accept this interpretation I found, with slight reservations that shouldn't matter since you're just looking for the general sense :

"Jesus was effectively denouncing Israel’s worship of God. With the cursing of the fig tree He was symbolically denouncing Israel as a nation and in a sense even denouncing unfruitful “Christians.” (That is people who profess to be Christian but have no evidence of a relationship with Christ)." -- Something like that.

It's actually loving of Jesus to show what is wrong so we can be warned. The normal human way is to be steamed and snap out. Jesus lovingly warns.
Reply:To show the power of the tongue.

Did you know that he cursed two fig trees? One dried up over night, and the other dried up immediately. This shows that faith is progressive. The more we use it, the better we get at it.

Mark 11:13-21 This was before he drove the money changers out of the temple.

Mat 21:19-21 This was after he drove the money changers out of the temple.

Does anybody have any idea on how to reproduce fig trees?

We had three fig trees in South Africa and they grew like crazy. If one branch is low to the ground, then you can weight it down until it touches the earth, and it should start making roots. Even a piece of a branch stuck in a jar of water will start rooting eventually. If you have one of those fig trees that keep shooting suckers from the trunk/stem, then use one of those that has a root on it. These are very easy plants to multiply by cuttings. You could also put a twig, about 15 cm long in a pot of soil and cover it with a plastic bag with holes in it. This shoot would also start to grow.

Does anybody have any idea on how to reproduce fig trees?
I had some small shoots coming up near the main plant when mine was first planted and I took them and potted them and they lived. You can do the twig bit too, just give it a nodule under the soil to sprout and I put mine near the mother tree so it will have the same sun and water it is used to getting. Do in spring and it will have all summer to get stable.
Reply:With what is called 'hard cuttings" ..here isthe info on it...click the link..very easy to do..

http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/count...
Reply:You have to cut a twig off it, but at the right point on the branch.

Then you put the twig in soil and hope it sprouts.

Should be done at correct time of the year too.

My husband gifted me with a beautiful bottle of Fig infused balsamic vinegar, what can i do with it?

Besides just using it on a salad??Anything that would showcase the flavors?

My husband gifted me with a beautiful bottle of Fig infused balsamic vinegar, what can i do with it?
you can mix a little bit of that with some olive oil and use it as a dip for bread taste delicous.I like it half and half but some people are different .
Reply:Oh wow. That's niiiice. I immediately think of a vinaigrette for a salad with lots of good-quality ham and gruyere cheese and walnuts in it.
Reply:Drizzle it over pizza and chili. Also because it's very sweet you can drizzle it over dessert items like cheesecake.

You're a very lucky girl. I think your guy deserves a treat in return, what do you say?
Reply:Use your imagintation. Any recipe you want to add just a touch of sweetness to, add away! Great for desserts, salads, grilling meats and vegies, etc. You could add it to your favorite sauce to add that rich sweetness. Drizzle over meatloaf in the last 15 minutes of cooking for a sweet crust! Give your hubby an extra hug for such a thoughtful gift!!!!!!
Reply:This would make an excellent marinade for red meat. The sweetness of the balsamic combined with the fig would greatly enhance a good steak. Make sure you season it with only kosher salt so you don't hide the flavor of the balsamic and fig. Yum! Good luck!
Reply:Use it in a marinade or make a reduction and spoon on food.
Reply:Oooh! Make a salad dressing with extra virgin olive oil and crushed walnuts very yummy!
Reply:You can do a reduction sauce of balsamic and use it over pork or chicken. Balsamic is usually too strong for fish. To reduce pour about 1 cup of the vinegar into a small sauce pan and bring to a boil, reduce heat %26amp; let simmer until it has reduced by about half, it will be thick %26amp; syrupy. Use it as a glaze for pork or chicken, but not until the last 15 mins of cooking time or you can just sauce the plate with it.
Reply:boil it down with a little honey and make a syrup to drizzle over pears and strawberries. its DELICIOUS.

you could drizzle that same syrup over soft/mild cheeses (like a triple cream brie) or dry/salty cheeses (like manchego) for a dessert cheese tray.
Reply:I have a bottle of Fig Balsamic vinegar from the Napa Valley and my wife and I love it! Try it on french vanilla ice cream! Its awesome!
Reply:wow. That's delicious. Don't mix it into recipes - use it in its pure form: a drizzle over fresh fruit (strawberries?) or on a salad of delicate greens, or on a white soft cheese like fresh mozzarella. If it's sweeter than is is tart, it can even go over ice cream.

I don't think you'd like dating me,wherever I would live.lol

I have lost 7kg in 2 month .. ihave perfect fig. how to tone my body without much of exe spec.stomach????

you could take the easy way out and get a electical stimulation belt like Slendertone.... but I'm not sure if this is just a temporary fix... like all excercise and muscle what takes you 8 weeks to get will take you 4 weeks to lose if not maintained!

Personally it's better to do the work but if you insist.... then these electrical impulse machines will proabbly work for you over short term! I had one.... it tickled like hell!!! LOL

I have lost 7kg in 2 month .. ihave perfect fig. how to tone my body without much of exe spec.stomach????
Daily eat one banana and two bread whenever you get hungry and put the lime juice in the hot water then drink
Reply:Exercise and maintain your diet.
Reply:Since you've already lost the weight and just want to tone there are many low impact toning exercises you can do. Try pilates 3x a week. Most of the videos are about 30 minutes, but really tone the body nicely.
Reply:yes its simple. you eat more first of all. eat haevy things pf oil and chats outside. not always but twice in a week. then when you are in home just keeping on eating aome thing always. dring milk daily night. dont do any exersice. just if possible do dips daily min 10 to 20. your chest will increase. this will surely result you in gaining weight and body.dont forget to take dips and some times pull ups. only these two exercises are enough to buit a body . in gym they put weight to get quick result and increase the size of muscles and strenthen the body. its required to only those who want to buid a body and participate in some comptitions. for healthy life dont go for gym. just eat how i said and do those exercises. all the best.
Reply:I don't think that there is any real substitute for exercise but it needs to be the right exercise too. There is also a psychological part to it that will keep you on the right track if you can master it. There is a link to a free ebook that talks about this on this page here: http://healthfitness.this-info.com
Reply:You want to tone your body without doing any exercise? I think EVERYONE wants that. Just do the freakin' work.

How do you tell when the fruit of a fig tree is ready?

Some figs put out a few crops each season, so you may get them throughout the summer and into the fall. There are many varieties of figs, some are green when ripe, some are purple, some are almost black. Have you seen your figs ripen before? If you know what color they get, that is a good clue.

Figs get plump and fat when ripe, although a few might be stunted on the same plant. Reach up and squeeze one, gently. It will be soft when it is ripe. If the fig has split open, while still on the tree, it is a bit too ripe. A soft, ripe fig must be picked gently, or it will just tear open. That's a good sign it is ripe, but means you have to eat it while standing right there. A ripe fig will be quite sweet, and gooey inside. An almost ripe fig will be more firm inside and won't be candy sweet. You can eat a fig as is. Some people don't like the skins, some don't care. If you didn't spray the tree, you don't even have to wash the fig.

Pick ripe figs with a slight twisting action, or use a sharp knife to keep from damaging it.

Here's a site with good info on figs: http://www.doityourself.com/stry/fabulou...

Could someone please translate the first recipe for this fig/foie gras combination?
A can of figs, drain, cook on the stove on low half an hour till the figs are almost dry, add a little powdered garlic, curry powder and sugar, mix again, and let cool. Take the fois gras, insert into it the fig paste in small amounts at a time, mix. Voila it's done
Reply:Take a can of figs and drain it. Put it in a pan, simmer half an hour untill the figs are almost dry. Add some garlic powder, curry and sugar. Mix it all and let it cool.

Take your foie gras and inject your fig paste in it.

I dont think this recipe is very accurate since you dont get any mesurements, and you don't know for how long to cook it. Maybe you should look for another one.
Reply:I plugged it into Googles Language tool section and this is what it said:

"one limps of figs, you egoutes, make mijotter a half hour until the figs are presques cigs. add a little powder garlic, curry and sugar. mixtures still. leashes to cool. take the time fat, and you inject your fig paste in the time fat by noquettes. you remould. here is, the turn is played"

It's a little funky but maybe that'll help you a little bit...

Sorry I couldn't be any more help.
Reply:I'm from Chicago. We get shot on sight if we even discuss foie gras around here! If you don't believe me, Google Charlie Trotter's name and see what comes up! ;)

How do you air layer to propogate fiddle leaf fig trees?

My grandfather used to air layer plants. These are some instructions that should help you.

http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/exten...

How do you air layer to propogate fiddle leaf fig trees?
I don't know about a fiddle leaf fig, but to air layer all you do is make a deep nick on the side of a branch. Wrap the nick with sphagnum moss, water well, and wrap the whole area with plastic wrap. Check it after 2-3 weeks. If there are roots developed at the nick, cut the whole thing off and plant in soil. If not, or the roots are very hair-like, re-wrap, water, and wait another 2-3 weeks.Very easy to do, and fun to watch.

Help for my maths sum please. cant seem to fig it out. thx.?

Mr.Yeo's annual income was $56,000 in 2005. He gave 0.42 of it to his parents, paid his income tax and paid for other expenditure. He saved the rest. (please show working!)

b) Mr.Yeo was taxed $950 for the first $40 000 he earned and 8.75% on the remainder. Calculate the total tax paid by Mr.Yeo.

Help for my maths sum please. cant seem to fig it out. thx.?
56,000 x 0.42= $23,520 (amount he gave to his parents)

$56,000 - $40,000 = $16,000

$950 ---%26gt; $40,000

16,000 x 0.0875 = $1,400 tax

$1,400 + $950 = $2,350 (total tax)

$56,000 - $23,520 - $2,350 - (other expenditure) = $30,130
Reply:a) Since 0.42 is already a percentage (42%)

We simply: $56,000 x 0.42 = $23,520

b) The remainder is $16,000 ($56,000 - $40,000). To calculate 8.75%, simply convert it to a decimal (0.0875) and multiply it by the value. This equates to: $16,000 x 0.0875 = $1400

Total tax = $950 + $1400 = $2350
Reply:$56,000 x 0.42 = $23,520

$950 for $40,000, so the rest is $16,000

then $16,000 x 8.75% = $1,400

$56,000 - $23,520 - ($950 + $1,400) = $30,130

i don't know the 'other expenditure', so i'll ignore it.

i assume he saved $30,130
Reply:If he gave .42 of it from his parents then:

$56000 (.42) = $25320

He gave them $25320.

Then He used the rest for tax expenditures and saved

$56000 - $253520 = $32480

56000 - 40 000 = 16000

950 + 0.875*16000 =

$14950 Mr yeo paid for tax
Reply:56000*0.42=$23520

950+40000*.0875=$4450

Do you think Michelangelo's David should wear a fig-leaf so as not to offend the moral majority?

David should not wear a fig leaf and who may or may not be offended has nothing to do with why.

But you sound suspiciously like you are hoping that Principal Togar will answer this question and have a melt down (that would be funny, funny but fiction) And thus give every one another reason to vaguely begrudge another vaguely defined group. Can't we all just get along, gag hurl.

Honestly their is a lot of narrow-mindedness on both sides of every issue. Where ever you stand on anything, never make the mistake of thinking you have nothing else to learn. That is where narrow mindedness comes from in the first place.

Does anyone else have Green Day's Minority playing in their head now? Not their best song, but it is still Green Day!!

Do you think Michelangelo's David should wear a fig-leaf so as not to offend the moral majority?
Principal/Nazi Togar from Rock n Roll High School, so funny, so ridiculous. It should really be called “Moronic Majority”. Disguising stupidity as morality is moronic. Pat Robertson does not = every Christian. Yes, some of us do have common sense. Real morality is why rape, murder, etc is illegal. Report It

it's not, it has so much sap that it bursts and can really injure you, even when you think it's dry wood

If I walked into a church with only a fig leaf to hide my bits, would I be thrown out?

I have no idea....but I'm sure your entrance would definitly wake up those who have fallen asleep in the pews....hahaha..
Reply:Actually, Adam and Eve were NOT allowed to walk around in just fig leaves. They did that themselves. If you look at

Gen 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

Fig leaves weren't good enough then, skimpy clothing today is no different.
Reply:nobody will throw u out
Reply:If you lived in my country, you wouldn't even get to the church doors- the police would get you first. Or worse still, you'd be lynched by other people before the police could get you.

Adam and Eve were not allowed (not aloud) to wear fig leaves. They made the things themselves, but then Jehovah gave them LONG GARMENTS. That should tell you something.

Gen 3:7- Then the eyes of both of them became opened and they began to realize that they were naked. Hence they sewed fig leaves together and made loin coverings for themselves.

Gen 3:21- And Jehovah God proceeded to make long garments of skin for Adam and for his wife and to clothe them

Reply:I like your question. Why not try a nudist colony and see if they have a church there.... this people are rational, tolerant and understanding also :)
Reply:In many churches you would and in many places you'd be arrested for indecent exposure when the cops arrived. And rightly so.

Adam and Eve did not enter a church dressed only in fig leaves, nor did they enter any building or mix with people who were not relatives, so I have no idea where you are coming from.
Reply:Well you might get a personal invite to meet the priest privately.

Am I wrong in thinking the prophecy of the fig tree isn't fulfilled by the "Jews" returning to Israel.

Putting forth shoots and buds speaks of healing, spiritual healing or conversion, not returning to a piece of land.

Am I wrong in thinking the prophecy of the fig tree isn't fulfilled by the "Jews" returning to Israel.
Yes, you are wrong.

The point is that leave and shoots are OUTWARD SHOWS OF RELIGION. The whole point of the prophecy is they bare NO FRUIT, and never will. Yahshua CURSED the fig tree and said as much. The manifestation of Judaism based in Jerusalem again in mass is a sign that we are in the last generation of this age. Messiah will return before the generation will end.

Reply:The fig tree certainly speaks about Israel, but not what you are alluding to.

If you know the truth the truth will set you free. No-one can understand the Bible and its mystery without being truly born again by the water and the Spirit (John 3:5).

OK, here is the challenge, become truly born again and we talk later....you will be amazed. I will lead you to the truth and this truth will set you free....if only ...

Reply:Yes, you are wrong in thinking that the prophecy of the fig tree is NOT fulfilled by the Jews returning to Israel in 1948.
Reply:You are wrong. It is a misreading and taking out of context one verse in the entire chapter. It has nothing to do with spiritual healing or conversion, but is part of a warning and instruction about what is going to take place as the end of this age comes to pass.

Matthew 24 deals with the signs of the time of the end (v:3). The return of the Jews to Judea (The proper name for modern day Israel, the real country named Israel has still not returned to their homeland) is clearly necessary for vv:15-16 to be possible. As such, the Jews returning to Judea in 1948 is a partial fulfillment of the prophecy of the return of Israel and Judah (A good Bible study on the two countries should help clear up any confusion).

Since the return of the Jews to Judea is one of the signs given by Messiah Yeshua of the end times (if vv:15%26amp;16 and the Daniel prophecies are to take place, He expects them to be there), it follows that some of the shoots and buds coming out on the fig tree include this return.

24:3 And while he was seated on the Mountain of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, Make clear to us, when will these things be? and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the world? 4 And Jesus said to them in answer, Take care that you are not tricked.....(Then follows some signs that we should look for).....32 Now take an example from the fig-tree: when her branch has become soft and puts out its leaves, you are certain that the summer is near; 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you may be certain that he is near, even at the doors.

In other words, the fig tree shoots and branches represent the signs of the times, not anything else.

I would try to find shoes the same purple (fig) colour. Or else go with black. Black shoes go with everything, so they're safe.

The metallic will reflect some of the purple from your dress and look very cool. If you can't find any, go for one of those brown sandals with beads on them. Then you can add some purple beads to them to make em match.
Reply:match your shoes to your accessories.. like your purse earring necklace..

so either black... silver
Reply:With purple you are always safe with silver. Depending on what kind of purple and the style of the dress you can probably rock another color.
Reply:Depends...what accessories are with it. Also depends on what you are wearing it too...what time of day...and what is the occasion?

In the Holy Bible,Jesus was talking about the Fig tree, what was the meaning?

For one thing, the Old Testament prophets often performed symbolic acts to gain attention and convey their message. Jeremiah, for instance, was ordered to break a potter's flask in Israel's sight, as a symbol of how God will smash Israel (Jeremiah 19).

The Hebrew Scriptures often use figs or the fig tree as a symbol of Israel. In Hosea, for example, we find God saying, "Like grapes in the desert, I found Israel. Like the first fruits of the fig tree in its prime, I considered your fathers" (Hosea 9:10).

Finally, we should put the Gospel incident back in context. Mark's story of the fig tree is sandwiched around his account of Jesus' cleansing of the Temple.

It is interesting to note that when Matthew tells of Jesus cursing the fig tree he omits the fact figs were not yet in season. Admittedly, this is a bothersome detail and something of a distraction. But it should not lead us away from the point. Whatever is to be said about figs being in season, Jesus wants to teach a lesson in the here and now. He can't wait around for two or three months until the fig crop is due!

The point, then, for the apostles is the fruitlessness of the Temple worship and piety at Jesus' time. Like the fig tree's abundance of green leaves, the activities of the Temple give the impression of religious vitality, but the Temple worship is barren.

From a distance it appeared to be fruitful, but on close examination, it proved fuitless. The reality was different from appearance. This fig tree was in that context symbolic of Jerusalem, the center of Jewish nation. From a distance Jerusalem gave the impression of a fruitful people, but on close examination, they proved fruitless.

Just like a fruitless tree, a fruitless people also will be removed from God's garden.

Read the parable of the unfaithful stewards aong with this.

In the Holy Bible,Jesus was talking about the Fig tree, what was the meaning?
The generation of the Fig Tree...1948 when Israel became a Nation.
Reply:The Fig Tree Symbolism?

The fig is an ancient spiritual symbol for our pituitry gland in the head, which is related to our Crown Chakra. The Crown Chakra is an energy field, which can unfold above our head like a lotus flower. Therefore, the symbol of the Crown Chakra is the lotus flower. It can be thought of as a large "acupunture point."

When Jesus refers to the fig tree being cast away with no fruit, then he spiritually refers to the ancient symbolism:

when the pituitary has no "fruit," which is the unfolding Crown Chakra, then it really misses its function, although it has other physical functions.

Here we see, like always, that Jesus values spiritual functions and virtues above all physical ones.

The same expample is sat with Mary and Martha. Jesus praises Mary for listening to his spirtual teachings and being close to his sacred energy field, instead of laboring for the physical body in the kitchen like Martha does. Martha had complained to Jesus that Mary would not help her

The pituitary can awaken by Tibetan bells or by the Monroe tapes (which use the Tibetan technique). Then the pituitary may be felt as vibrating in one's head. An awesome feeling!

When humankind is ready to regain the God-given Spiritual powers, humankind can create Paradise on earth. Yet, humankind still prefers to gve itself lessons of war, slander, lies, jealousy, secret wrong doing, exploitations of people, animals, plants and the earth etc. with all their consequences, instead of recultivating divine powers.

We still have the means to unfold these powers, we only have to remember. Jesus reminded us of these powers with his many parabels. Once this is understood, much change will take place. Change is already on the way, toward spiritual life.

Thanks for the question.

Reply:While traveling from Bethany to Jerusalem four days before his death, he saw a fig tree that had abundant leaves but no fruit whatsoever. Since the early figs appear along with the leaves—and sometimes even before the leaves develop—the tree’s lack of fruit showed that it was worthless.—Mark 11:13,?14.

This incident took place near the village of Bethphage. Its name means “House of the Early Figs.” This may indicate that the area was known for producing good crops of early figs.

Like the unproductive fig tree that looked healthy, the Jewish nation had a deceptive outward appearance. But it had not produced godly fruitage, and it finally rejected Jehovah’s own Son. Jesus cursed the sterile fig tree, and on the following day, the disciples noticed that it had already withered. That dried-up tree aptly signified God’s forthcoming rejection of the Jews as his chosen people.—Mark 11:20,?21.
Reply:Are you referring to Mat 11:13-14

Fig trees, a popular source of inexpensive food in Israel, require three years from the time they are planted until they can bear fruit. Each tree yields a great amount of fruit twice a year in late spring and in early autumn. This incident occurred early in the spring when the leaves were beginning to bud. The figs normally grow as the leaves fill out, but this tree, though full of leaves, had none. The tree looked promising but offered no fruit. Jesus' harsh words to the fig tree could be applied to the nation of Israel; fruitful in appearance only; Israel was spiritually barren.

I don't know specifically about ficus plants, but here's a link to a database of poisonous plants.

It's probably not a good idea for them to eat houseplants, even if they're not toxic. You might try spraying your plant with Bitter Apple. I don't think it would hurt the plant., but dogs don't like the taste. You can get it at a pet supply store.

What is the purpose of Iago's virtue? a fig speech in the play Othello?

Iago was the villain of the play and he was not a virtuous character at all. In the speech you're talking about he equates virtue with a "fig," which in the early 17th century didn't mean a fig like in Fig Newton, but it was a hand gesture where you hold your thumb between your index finger and middle finger and shake it disapprovingly at someone or something, it was called "giving the fig" and supposed to be an insult. Basically, what Iago was saying in this speech in equating it with this offensive gesture was "F** ("fig," if you like) virtue, I don't need it and it's worthless. The equivalent nowadays, I guess, would be saying "virtue can kiss my a##." The purpose of the speech in the play is to show that he is truly a villain and that he has no respect at all for virtue or people who are virtuous, like Othello, who (other than his chief weakness being his jealously) is a virtuous character. It shows what a low and seedy character he is and how little he regards Othello and that he is out to bring him down and whatever cost.

Christians, whats your take on the ripening of the fig tree?

Some used to believe that it was Israel becomming a nation. But since a generation by biblical standards comes out around 55 years, that cant be it right? Because that generation has already begun to pass away? Thoughts?...... I am referring to the generation that shall not pass away.

Christians, whats your take on the ripening of the fig tree?
Generation in Greek is genea where we get our word geneology. The "generation" term is not accurate, however, the "race" or Jewish lineage is. What Jesus is saying is that once Israel becomes a nation, they will never be cast out again--the Jewish race will survive and be there until the end. To many people were trying to set a calendar date for the end times. And they shouldn't have.

However, allowing that God allowed a transliteration for the times, the possible generation spans, depending on sources polled from the Bible, and God's intentions (which remain unknown to us) a generation could cover a span of as few as twenty 360 day years to 120 - 365 day years. Another approximation of Christ's return based on years since the creation and the day-age concept, the raptur could happen sometime between April 2004 and November 2008. When doesn't really matter. Just be looking for His Return.

Baloney is a common American mis-spelling of the word 'bologna', which is a smooth meat sausage often accredited to Italy, but with some evidence of history going back to a German cook in a Spanish kings court.

What is the best way to look after a fig tree in England and how much water should it have? mine is in a pot.?
I think it all depends on your soil, i have part clay soil, and my fig tree is partly in the shade. I was told that I wouldn't get any figs for at least 10 years. I have had them grow from day one and am getting each year. It's three years at the moment and growing wonderfully. Don't over water it.
Reply:this deciduous, spreading shrub with decorative, 3- or 5-lobed, mid-green leaves is best grown as against a south or south-west facing wall. In long, hot summers it will produce an abundant crop of brown, pear-shaped fruit with red flesh. These are rich and sweet and available for picking from August to September. An interesting and easy plant to grow, and is among one of the oldest fruits in cultivation.

* Position: full sun

* Soil: will tolerate most soils, except very badly drained

* Rate of growth: average

* Other features: medium-large, brown fruit (August to September)

* Hardiness: fully hardy

* Garden care: Plant in a 40cm (15in) pot in the ground or in lined pit to restrict root growth - unrestricted root growth leads to poor fruiting. Prune in spring when all chance of frost has past. Remove any frost damaged or weak branches, and thin out shoots to let light in. Some pruning may be required in summer - pinch all new shoots back to five or six leaves
Reply:Depends what sort of Fig tree it is. Generally, place in a good spot, full or partial sun, and water and feed regularly (Plant supplements or even mulsh are both good foods for Figs). Make sure the pot you have is big enough for growth (although it may not look like it is growing in height, the roots will eventually grow around half the height of the tree underground)

If you have a Weeping Fig tree remember that it will always look a little 'droopy', try not to over water.

There are plenty of tips for every plant and flower on RHS's website.
Reply:LOTS OF WATER WHEN IT HAS LEAVES.KEEP MOIST IN THE WINTER.
Reply:First, freshly planted in pots, don't feed for first year, then a general fertiliser once a year when figs start to swell.

when you see small fruits about thumbnail size these are next years fruit some will fall off

Keep your eye on the weather forecast, if it looks like a bad frost (-3 or 4c) put fleece on for safety.

Depends a bit on how sheltered the plants are.

Why do Roman Catholics think Jesus cursed the fig tree?

Of course, anyone can answer. I am looking for Catholic opinions, though.

Why do Roman Catholics think Jesus cursed the fig tree?
My understanding of the incident, given the significance of the fig tree in the cultures of that era plus the proximity in time to the cleansing of the temple, is that the cursing of the fig tree was a rather explicitly meaningful pronouncement against those who should have borne fruit by accepting their Messiah but instead rejected him. But I could be wrong. It's an interesting and also troublesome passage, I'm sure there are other aspects of it I'm not considering.

By the way, you'd have a lot more Catholic opinions if you didn't have so many Catholics blocked ... just a thought.

Just so you know that.

Now, what are some interpretations.

Regarding Matthew 21:19 St. Thomas Aquinas cites several saints and doctors of the Church for interpretation. But before I provide their correct analysis of this challenging scripture passage, let me share my initial thoughts and then check for correctness.

In Matthew 21, Christ is entering Jerusalem. Our Lord, while riding upon an ***, is greeted by many followers who possess the faith. They place palms upon the ground or spread their garments for Him to travel upon. The faithful people cry out, “Hosanna to the Son of David… .” Those in Jerusalem wonder, “Who is this?” And Jesus proceeds into the temple to cast out rabble selling and the like. He says, “My house shall be called the house of prayer; but you have made it a den of thieves.” The next morning He is hungry and sees the fig tree in question. It is on the wayside, a wild fig tree outside the temple; it has no fruit and He curses the fig tree, “May no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever.” Next, Our Lord instructs the apostles on faith and belief. He concludes with the parable of the Husbandmen and the householder.

Therefore, I see only one central meaning of the fig tree, and that is that the Jews are cursed for their faithlessness and unbelief. Christ curses the fig tree for not producing fruit just as He curses the Jews for not producing fruit after 3 years of teaching. They loose the promise. The vineyard, like Noah’s ark is symbolic of the Church; the fig tree in the wild unlike the fig trees in the vineyard are outside the church and cannot be cared for and cannot elicit “good fruit”.

Fr. Fonck agrees and says of the cursed fig tree, “Our Divine Saviour by the symbolic cursing of the fig-tree before the Jerusalem gate would make known the sad results of the impenitence of Israel, which must necessarily draw down the curse of God’s avenging justice.”

Back to the sources of St. Thomas Aquinas:

1. St. Hillary, “But now when He would exhibit a type of his judgements on the rebellious, He represents the future by the destruction of a tree- Let no fruit grow on the tree henceforward forever.”

2. St. Chrysostom, “This was only a supposition of the disciples that it was cursed because it had no fruit; for another Evangelist says that it was not yet the season. Why then was it cursed? For the disciples sake, that they might learn that He had power to wither up those who crucified Him...”

3. St. Jerome, “The tree which He saw by the wayside we understand as the synagogue, which was nigh to the way inasmuch as it had the Law, but yet believed not on the way, that is, on Christ.”

4. Pseudo- Chrysotom, “Also the fig in respect of the multitude of seeds under one skin is as it were an assembly of the fruitful. But, He finds nothing on it but leaves only, that is, pharisaical traditions, an outward show of the law without the fruits of truth.”

5. Origen, “…and because this plant was figuratively a living creature, having a soul, He speaks to it as though it heard. Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. Therefore is the Jewish synagogue barren, and shall continue so until the end of the world, when the multitude of the gentiles shall come in, and the fig tree withered while Christ was yet sojourning in this life, and the disciples seeing by their spiritual discernment the mystery of the withered faith, wondered, and having faith, and not doubting they bare it, and so it withers when their life-giving virtue passes to the gentiles, and by each one who is brought to the faith, that mountain, Satan, is lifted up and cast into the sea, that is, into the abyss.”

An additional source:

6. The Life of Christ by Father Giuseppe Ricciotti-1952, pg. 292:

“If we were to judge the tree as we would a reasonable person, we should have to say it was not guilty for having no fruit in that season. Jesus was, in reality, seeking what was not to be found in the normal course of things. Nevertheless He cursed the tree saying; may no one ever eat fruit of thee henceforward forever!”

“All these considerations indicate that Jesus' act was intended to be symbolic. The crux of the symbol lay in the contrast between the abundance of useless foliage and the lack of useful fruit. Those who, like the Apostles present, knowing the nature of Jesus' ministry and having listened to His discussions with the Pharisees and His invectives against their hypocrisy, would have had no trouble understanding this reference. The true culprit was the chosen people Israel, then luxuriant with PHARISAIC foliage but for a long time now obstinately void of moral fruit, and hence meriting the curse of eternal barrenness.”

Mary, Mother of the Church, Pray for Us.

St. Therese of the Child Jesus, Pray for Us.
Reply:Jesus often insisted that trees which do not bear good fruit will be cut down (Matthew 7:19; Luke 13:6-9). The fig tree did not bear fruit, was useless, and deserved to be destroyed: the spiritual application being that any human who does not bear fruit for God will also be destroyed for his or her failure to produce.

Jesus did not throw a temper tantrum and curse the fig tree even though it was incapable of producing fruit. He cursed the tree because it should have been growing fruit since it had the outward signs of productivity. Jesus’ calculated timing underscored the spiritual truth that barren spiritual trees eventually run out of time. As for personal application, we should all diligently strive to ensure that we are not the barren fig tree.

What is the best way to cover a fig tree for the winter and when should it be covered?

Hi:

The main goal with covering a fig tree for the winter is to make sure it has enough breathing room. You can mulch around it real well. You could also loosely wrap some burlap around the tree and this will protect it from the winter elements.

Hope this has helped some and good luck to you. If you need any further suggestions, please feel free to contact me at my website. I will link you to my site map and browse through and see if you can find some tips, techniques, articles, photos and descriptions of plants and landscape solutions. Good luck to you and have a great day!

When is the best time to prune a fig tree?

Conifers may be pruned any time of year, but pruning during the dormant season may minimize sap and resin flow from cut branches.

Hardwood trees and shrubs without showy flowers: prune in the dormant season to easily visualize the structure of the tree, to maximize wound closure in the growing season after pruning, to reduce the chance of transmitting disease, and to discourage excessive sap flow from wounds. Recent wounds and the chemical scents they emit can actually attract insects that spread tree disease. In particular, wounded elm wood is known to attract bark beetles that harbor spores of the Dutch elm disease fungus, and open wounds on oaks are known to attract beetles that spread the oak wilt fungus. Take care to prune these trees during the correct time of year to prevent spread of these fatal diseases. Contact your local tree disease specialist to find out when to prune these tree species in your area. Usually, the best time is during the late fall and winter.

sorry, I thought you said "fig a prune tree"
Reply:Is it indoors or out? Just finished a class in pruning. Dead branches are pruned at any time. Actual remedial pruning is done when the plant is dormant. Outdoors, this is in January and February. Indoors, when the plant appears to be dormant...no further growth or leaf pruduction.
Reply:I do not know where you live but I had several figs and I always pruned them JUST when the cold weather started to set in... DO NOT prune them during or at the onslaught of the growing season.
Reply:when it is in its dormant state, after losing all possible leaves

Given the opportunity, would you eat shrimps and fig newtons with God?

Fig Newtons! Chocolate stuffed.

Given the opportunity, would you eat shrimps and fig newtons with God?
shrimp, yes, but I don't like fig newtons
Reply:Yes but not together.
Reply:no, i'm allergic to shrimp and i don't really like fig newtons.
Reply:Shrimp is an abomination to God.

Blasphemer!
Reply:God is spirit, he is the souce substance limits and bounds of all things, both invisible and visible. We are physical, God is not but he works thru the physical. So this question is not a valid one.
Reply:I don't eat any seafood so I wouldn't eat shrimp with anyone. I guess if God wanted to eat fig newtons I would have one. Don't believe everything you read in the bible. Clearly shrimp aren't abomination or most of the world would be going to hell and that's pretty doubtful.
Reply:I would even though I do not really care for either of those, but I would not want to look ungrateful!!!
Reply:Yes, it's all cleaned during Jesus era. Especially Lobster.
Reply:... Than what?
Reply:they had "fig newtons" back then? I thought they were made by Nabisco
Reply:Fig newtons are an abomination? Okay this is new to me where is that?

Shrimp is an abomination - Yahshua did not make it clean.

I'm still waiting for the scripture on fig newtons being an abomination.
Reply:mabye shrimp, i don't like fig newtons but i love shrimp!
Reply:Definitely, I have a few questions for him and over a meal would be a great way to discuss. Besides I love shrimp and fig newtons, not sure about together, but some nice shrimp scampi over fettuccine followed by fig newtons and coffee yum!
Reply:I don't like shrimp, but if we're going biblical here, it would be OK for you to have your slaves serve the food--but you can't play football with god 'cause you're not supposed to touch the skin of a pig.
Reply:Does that mean chicken wings are out too?
Reply:Well, maybe if he paid for it, but that's all. The Leviticus laws apply only to Levites.
