Working in ms word, give caption to figures(auto-numbered), how one can relate the fig number with
text?

ok, i put a figure and caption it in MS word. i mention something about that figure writing "the figure # shows.......". Now i put another figure before that figure( suppose figure 4), i have to change the sequence of number for fig 4 the in text, as it should be now figure 5. The captions being autonumbered changes but i have to go through all the document to change the numbers written in text. How can one correlate the caption number with the the number written in text, so that every time caption number changes the figure number in text also changes??

This works in Word XP(2002) and probably adjacent versions.

1. Select the place you want to place the reference.

2. Click the Insert-%26gt;Reference-%26gt;Cross Reference menu item.

3. In the Reference Type list box, select Figure.

4. In the Insert Reference To list box, select Only Label and Number.

5. In the For Which Caption, select the one you want.

6. Click the Insert Button.

Hope that helps.
Reply:If you mean updating the references, they should update automatically. If not, do an F9 on the entire document (CTRL/A) Report It
