Is there is a way to make a fig tree stop producing it's fruit?

Hi all! Can any of you tell me if there is a way to make a fig tree stop producing it's fruit? I know it sounds horrible but they are just so messy. We have this huge fig tree in our back yard, about 30 feet tall. It's a nice big full tree and the fruit is very good. I like the tree and I love the shade it produces in the hot summer. I just don't like the mess that it makes in the yard. When my son goes out to play he is stepping all over the fallen figs and it gets pretty messy. Is there a way to keep this lovely tree from producing fruit? Thanks

Decisions, decisions. Either get rid of the tree or learn to live with it.

A possibility: Do you live in an area that allows you to have poultry? Chickens, ducks, geese, or Guinea fowl may eat them - and they also supply cheap fertilizer! Hmmm, that would lead to ANOTHER problem.................
Reply:get it spayed. J/k... pinch off the buds... Takes time and work, but it does the job.
Reply:There is a commercially available product that prevents fruit formation on many trees. It is called Florel and should be used exactly in the amount the label states. It is most effective when the tree is flowering.
Reply:umm kill the buds or the fig tree not the roots
Reply:yes when it starts to make the fruit in the first stages go and get all the fruit off it that or make a compost pile where when the fruit falls you put it in that or start vermiculture
Reply:Yes their is, a chain saw or hand saw works very well!
Reply:No. Unless you want to cut them all off before they get ripe. With a tree that tall, it is doubtful you could do that. Why not ask your friends and neighbors over to get some? Some people love them and would jump at the chance to have them. Fig preserves are awesome.
