Is wood from the fig tree any good for burning in a wood burner stove?
Yes, as long as it is dry, i.e. not green. Green wood will burn if it is not too large and you have a good fire going, but it makes a mess in the chimney.
Reply:I'm not sure, let me check... I think you have to be careful about what is inside the bark as it might be harmful to be breathed in or something
Reply:any wood is fine as long as there is no glue or plastics of any sort in the wood (like worktops you have cut up for example)
Reply:Sure, so long as it's properly seasoned. Fig wood is long-celled but still very soft wood. Ir it's cut into 4-5 inch width logs and seasoned for 6 months or so, it should be just fine. The dried twigs make very fine kindling that lights easily and burns well. It is important that the wood be properly seasoned, or dried. Otherwise, the "sap" creates a creosote during the burning which will build up on your chimney walls and present a fire hazard.
