Are fig rolls addictive?
I see your point, I eat one, don't like the taste but don't hate it. But find myself reaching for more..

Reply:It depends on your definition of "addictive".

One definition is direct CHEMICAL addiction. Broadly speaking drugs such as coffee, tobacco, alcohol or narcotics cause a (perceived, not necessarily real) positive state of mind that the user can get used to and which can also lead to a pronounced negative reaction upon withdrawl, when not taken for a period of time, sometimes weeks long. A dependency on these chemicals can build up, with repeat doses difficult to resist.

The term "addiction" can also apply to stimulating experiences that produce natural release of endorphins and adrenaline: roller coasters, scary movies, sex, gambling, shoplifting and many forms of mania have a similar addictive effect.

You could say that there is some point between someone having an interest or habit, through to an obsession that has a grossly negative as a result of the compulsion. This is the point of addiction.

All fat and sugar-based cakes, cookies, biscuits, etc. produce a very quick sugar-rush of energy which can be a mild form of euphoria. It doesn't last long - just minutes - and you can feel a low when it passes. So you have another one.

Fig rolls are not as sweet as many other similar products. Maybe the sugar rush is unexpected by the brain and craving starts.

Now the question is whether you can establish a direct negative effect as a result of repeated fig roll consumption.
