Why did Jesus curse the fig tree for not bearing fruit, although it was not even fig season?

Jesus suffered from mental illness or epilepsy, evidenced by his behavior in many events. I'll send you a file if you like titled "Science and the Resurrection" from a respected research neurobiologist detailing this, based upon something that happened in is laboratory and reading about Jesus.

Why did Jesus curse the fig tree for not bearing fruit, although it was not even fig season?
This question is a result of misreading.

Mark 11:12-14

"And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry: And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it."

This passage never says that Jesus cursed the tree because it did not bear fruit as it should have. It just says He cursed the fig tree.

READING ON:

Mark 11:20-23

"And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Jesus cursed the Fig tree not because he was angry, or because the tree deserved it. He cursed it to show his diciples the truth that God answers the prayers of His children, no matter what they pray for, if they pray in faith.
Reply:Probably the same reason this old homeless guy I saw last week repeatedly kept banging his shopping cart against the curb and swearing instead of just using a little leverage and lifting up the front wheels. All anger and emotion, and no grasp of simple science.
Reply:He wanted some figs, damnit!
Reply:Jesus used this event to teach a lesson in faith.
Reply:Because he wasn't talking about figs.
Reply:Jesus did know it was not the season for figs.

Through Christ we are to go beyond the law and we bear fruit in season and out of season.

Edit to Reverand :Do you KNOW the hour when Christ returns? Will you be bearing fruit?
Reply:He went on rants pretty often didn't he?
Reply:i dont know exactly what the passage means but all i know is that the bible should not be read literally.
Reply:You gotta be trippin' out on some good **** to have an argument with a tree. Wow! that's ******' cool!

HE WAS A DOCTOR!! NOT A GARDENER!!

Oh yeah, that was Bones
Reply:8Early in the morning, as he was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. 19Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, "May you never bear fruit again!" Immediately the tree withered.

20When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. "How did the fig tree wither so quickly?" they asked.

21Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. 22If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

If you actually read on you'll see that the point wasn't that it was fig season he was using the tree as an example for what he explaining to his disciples.

in Mark: 11:13

it is the same deal read on

20In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. 21Peter remembered and said to Jesus, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!"

22"Have[f] faith in God," Jesus answered. 23"I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins."[g]

the bible is not a book you can nitpick verses and understand them it talks study. somethings in the bible aren't even explained what they mean until near the end of the book itself sometimes, and to read one verse and another verse and start asking questions about it makes no sense.
Reply:have you ever had constipation, well if you had you would know that you'd kill people just to clear the blockage and figs are the best cure i know. he must have been bursting. i think one of the gospel writers was making an esoteric poo joke.
Reply:If we dont bear some fruit after all Jesus has done for us than maybe He was trying to tell us something.

Let's bear some more fruit.

The season is now and the tree is ripe the harvest is ready but there are few workers to bring in the Harvest
Reply:Like all stories in the Bible, it is a metaphor of some sort. While the passage of time and differences in culture and literature make some of the metaphors difficult to understand, most, when taken in their full context, express some sort of lesson or belief. I.E., check the full context of the passage(s)
Reply:there are many many reasons

the most obvious one is that the bible as we have it today is based on documents written 300 years sfter th e death of christ ,Up until then it was handed down by word of mouth so there is no point in even beginning to analyze minor details like that.

what matters are the broad themes of love ....seflessness ... concern for our neighbour ... compassion ect..I have alluded to this before.

The nature of all your questions reveal a very strong bias anyway......if u want to find fault with catholicism or christianity its not hard to do.............

(like all religions most likely)...........The world is still a much more civilized place because of it and I would hate to live in a world without it or indeed a world with only one religion
Reply:Because the fig tree symbolised the Jewish nation.
Reply:You're right, it doesn't make any sense. What gave you the idea that the book ever did, or was ever supposed to make sense. I was of the understanding that it was intentionally written in a cryptic manner to confuse the reader, and leave meaning open to interpretation. It's all a load of crap, but...at least you're hot, right? Just kidding, but still.
Reply:the fruit of the fig tree generally appears before the leaves and because the fruit is green it sort of blends in with the leaves right up until it is almost ripe. therefore, when Jesus and his disciples saw from a distance that the tree had leaves, they would have expected it to also have fruit on it even though it was earlier in the season than what would be normal for a fig tree to be bearing fruit.

also, from studying about the way fig trees grow in israel we learn that each tree would often produce two to three crops of figs each season. there would be an early crop in the spring followed by one or two later crops. this also explains why Jesus and his disciples would be looking for fruit on the fig tree even if it was not in the main growing season. the fact that the tree already had leaves on it even though it was at a higher elevation around jerusalem, and therefore would have been outside of the normal season for figs, would have seemed to be a good indication that there would also be fruit on it.
Reply:thats not fair, maybe it didnt obey his command to bbear fruit or something

still y curse a tree???
Reply:Because he was a Hu-Man being, a carpenter, not a farmer AND NOT A "GOD"

As a Hu-Man, he is PART of "god" [as we all are] but NOT "god" incarnate.

RE; "DJmanTX" W.T.F.? ?? "Go BEYOND the law"?

This is the problem, holy rollers believing "Through christ" one is above all else.

~BLESSINGS~DIVINE LOVE~HEALING LIGHT TO ALL~
Reply:He was a carpenter, not a fruit grower!
Reply:fig tree symbolized the Jewish nation.

They not made fruit in due season
Reply:Because 'God' is imaginary and Jesus had possibly had a Narcissistic Personality Disorder because he was the first-born son to a Jewish mother who thought he was perfect? LOL!
Reply:In the gospel of Mark the fig tree of Mark 11(12-?) represents the then nation of Judea and its temple. It is a figurative representation of the outcome of the Roman-Jewish war that will occur about 40 years after these events of Mark's main character.

In this sequence of events (fig tree, temple) Mark is using allusion to Hosea 9, which is itself a warning about impending doom for the Jews.

According to Mark's story, after Jesus spots and curses the fig tree, he then goes to the temple and causes a disturbance there. After Jesus and followers leave the temple, they see the fig tree withered from the root. This is immediately reminiscent of Hosea 9...

Read and compare Mark 11 to Hosea 9;

Mark 11:12

The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14 Then he said to the tree, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." And his disciples heard him say it.

15 On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple area and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, 16 and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. 17 And as he taught them, he said, "Is it not written that My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations'? But you have made it a den of robbers."

...

19 When evening came, they went out of the city.

20 In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. 21 Peter remembered and said to Jesus, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!"

Hosea 9:

1 Do not rejoice, O Israel, do not be jubilant like the other nations. For you have been unfaithful to your God

...

7 The days of punishment are coming, the days of reckoning are at hand. Let Israel know this. Because your sins are so many and your hostility so great, the prophet is considered a fool, the inspired man a maniac. 8 The prophet, along with my God, is the watchman over Ephraim, yet snares await him on all his paths, and hostility in the house of his God.9 They have sunk deep into corruption, as in the days of Gibeah. God will remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins. 10 'When I found Israel, it was like finding grapes in the desert; when I saw your fathers,

it was like seeing the early fruit on the fig tree.

...

15 "Because of all their wickedness in Gilgal, I hated them there. Because of their sinful deeds,

I will drive them out of my house.

I will no longer love them; all their leaders are rebellious.

16 Ephraim is blighted, their root is withered, they yield no fruit.
