A Question about Fig Trees???

I have a baby fig tree in the front of my house. It's growing in a piece of soil (about 7inces wide) between the fence and the concrete which makes up my driveway. My question is: Do the roots grow very big?? If they do, the tree can cause damage to my driveway, and probably the structure of my home. I've been thinking of digging it out and replanting it somewhere in the back yard, but before I thought I'd ask, maybe someone out there knows a lot about trees that bear fruit. I appreciate and thank you for all the good answers!!

A Question about Fig Trees???
i am definately not an expert on fig trees, but we have a large old fig tree growing right along side our driveway, and there has been no damage! (so far) :)

i hope you get everything figured out!
Reply:Fig trees have to be pruned every year to force them to bear fruit; similar to rose bushes. I have seen 50 year old trees that barely have a diameter 6 inches.
Reply:My only experience is with indoor Ficus (benjamina) trees which don't get a huge canopy or root ball. Actually, they tend to be happiest a little root bound, in a pot that seems a bit small, so if your fig is closely related, I don't think it's root system will tend to spread destructively like a big ol' maple! Good luck!
