What you need to realize is that R1 and the 12 ohm resistor are in parallel. (Solve for equiv R),



Next, the resulting resistance is in series with R2 and THAT equivalent is in parallel with 18 ohm.



Just straighten up R1 and 18 ohm to VERTICAL and you'll say, "Doh!" and the answers will fall right out.
