Bite a fig?

My teacher uses the saying "Go bite a fig" and I'm wondering if there is a hidden meaning.

Bite a fig?
It's a gentle version of "go suck a lemon" .. 'to go bite a fig' means "put a smile on your face and then come back" .. 'bite a lemon' means at least "the grimace from the lemon will give you a reason for being sour faced"
