Determine the direction of B for each case in Fig. 20-51, where F represents the force on a positively charged particle moving with velocity v. ( means the vector points inward. means it points outward, toward the viewer.)

Please explain your answers because I don't understand this at all. Thanks!

Determine the direction of B for each case in Fig. 20-51, where F represents the force on a positively charged
the force is determined by the VECTOR CROSS product V X B. That is, the direction of the force is determined by the Right-Hand Rule ( move fingers from v to B and the thumb points in the direction of F )



In (a) the v is to the left and the force is outward from the paper so the B field is down in the plane of the paper



In (b) the velocity is in the plane and to the right and the force is in the plane and up so B is pointed INTO the paper.



In (c) the velocity is into the paper and the force is in the plane and down so B is in the plane and to the right.
