Why does god love the smell of goat burning, but dislike fig trees so much?

What is it about fig trees?

Why does god love the smell of goat burning, but dislike fig trees so much?
Fig trees just kinda stand there not bearing fruit when you want them to. But burnt goat smells good; the aroma is quite pleasing.
Reply:????????Actually, you've got it backwards. God would much rather there had been fruit on that fig tree and that there would have never been the need for a single animal sacrifice. But, like the rest of the world, we're always helping the devil tell lies about the Character of God that way.

God bless.
Reply:Because Adam and Eve wore fig leaves after they were bad, so God made them sacrifice their pet goat.
Reply:You are referring to the mysterious story where Jesus curses the fig tree. I don't get it either and I doubt many people do. The Bible is full of mysteries.

But no Christian today believes that God desires animal sacrifices.
Reply:I like the smell of a burning cross.
Reply:“I would not give a fig for the simplicity this side of complexity, but I would give my life for the simplicity on the other side of complexity.”

I don't know what it means, but I like it.
Reply:Maybe he was upset because he knew one day fig newtons would be created.
Reply:Wow, what's with the fig questions? Now I'm gonna have to go to the store and get some (since...it's winter and the figs are gone from the tree).
Reply:they both die LTJ. they both die.
Reply:*laugh* that's cute, the way you put that.

Its not that God "loves the smell of burning goat." The Israelites sacrificed to God, and He did command it, but not because He likes the smell! Sacrifice is an act of devotion, and that is simply how religious people in that times showed devotion. HOWEVER, check out Hosea for God's Deeper feelings on the issue.Hosea 6:6...."For I desire goodness, not sacrifice; obediance to God rather than burnt offerings".

My theory on this is, God commanded animal sacrifice to the Israelites because that is what they would understand at that time, in that culture. But the REAL desire behind it is obediance, devotion, piety.
Reply:Funny, I like the smell of pig roasting and hate fig newtons.

Am I the second coming?

Oh dear...so many people to smite, so little time......
Reply:Look, if you're hungry just come right out and say so. Enough with the fig questions already.
Reply:You misunderstand the context. The smell is the smell of a sacrifice, something tangible is being offered. The fig tree which Jesus cursed gave promise of a tangible gift which may be analogous to a sacrifice. The operative term here is "promise". It was a tease. As they approached it to harvest some of its fruit they discovered it was barren. How often we appreciated a gift (i.e. a sacrifice) but are angry at a fruitless promise (the barren fig tree). I think we can all identify with this incident. MARANATHA!
Reply:Or.......why does god like to drink blood and eat human flesh but doesn't like cigarette smoke?
Reply:They don't smell nearly so much like dinner when they're burning.

Goat... mmmmm
Reply:Apparently the evolution of the fig tree is an abomination to God, The Goat's evolution too, but when you burn a goat it's cleanses the goat of all sins for having evolved and makes a pleasing odor unto the lord... or some bullshit like that.
Reply:Who doesn't like the smell of roasting meat?
